10 years of making true hip-hop The Release Party dvd/cd takes an interesting look behind the scenes into one of the pioneer groups of underground hip hop. Its hard to believe its been over 7 years since their debut album dropped. I discovered Dilated back in 99' when I heard them on on a local FM radio station that had a three hour underground hip hop show each week. I had been listening to underground hip hop 3 years prior, but never heard a group that sounded so different from the rest of the underground hip hop being played then. I also never heard the dj featured so prominently in their tracks as Dilated did. The dvd contains a documentary/movie, and also live concert footage and music videos from each of their albums. The interviews of the crew are candid and honest, each reflecting on the rough times they spent on the Capitol label as well certain artists that influenced their careers, and the time they put into making each of their albums. They also give good insight into what the hip hop music industry is like and their roles as independent artists. Their is also a bonus cd which is pretty solid, although it only comes with 7 tracks I think the main focus is on the dvd. If your a fan of Dilated Peoples expect the usual tight lyrics and Babu's exceptional turntablism on this cd.
