Album Description:
Second part of the Barenaked Ladies Are... recording sessions.

From Amazon.ca:
Barenaked Ladies Are Men is a companion disc to the predecessor, Barenaked Ladies Are Me. Although recorded during the same studio sessions, the discs were released five months apart. Are Me is the quieter of the two, while Are Men could be described as the feistier, noisier twin brother. Given their adult contemporary history, the Ladies's version of 'feisty' is hardly a venture into death metal, however Are Men contains an evolutionary quality that may well bring new fans into the fold. Nearly two decades into their career, the lads' growth can in part be measured by a handful of increasingly layered soundscapes ("Serendipity," "Another Spin") that bear a slight resemblance to the harmonies that the Beach Boys were penning around the time of their Pet Sounds release. The disc's biggest surprise is the politically cutting "Fun & Games," written from the perspective of a world leader assessing the war. "There's no need to draft them/you could hear us laugh then/the poor and black all need the room and board" sings Ed Robertson, as a New Orleans-style jazz band poignantly encircles the vocals. "One and Only" is a lush track that combines the harmonies a la Crosby, Stills, and Nash with a Foo Fighters-style chorus. Longtime fans can rest easy, however knowing that other tracks ("Running out of Ink," "Half a Heart") are done in that straight-up, traditional Barenaked style that fuses catchy pop melodies with clever lyrics. --Denise Sheppard

2 out of 5 starspretty disappointed
I was kind of surprised that I hadn't heard any of the songs from this album get at least a little air play, but after listening to the CD, I can see why. Just about all the tracks sound muddled. I was pretty disappointed by the mixing. To me, the instrumental portion of the songs drowns out the lyrics. It is really hard, harder than it should be, to understand the words because the singing is overshadowed buy the instruments.

5 out of 5 starsBarenaked ladies are Men
I've always liked The ladies and their live performances always are FANTASTIC. This CD is relaxing and fun and all fans would enjoy this disc. Can't wait for the next one!! Cheers DKS from Surrey BC

1 out of 5 starsBoring, not like the 'classic' BNL
I have been a fan of BNL since Gordon. I've been a member of their fan club and attended every concert that was near me. I love their music. However, this album should be an embarrassment to them. It is boring. I try to listen to the songs but find my mind wandering somewhere else. I end up skipping most of them. These songs just don't have the edge of their other albums. It's not that they are slow, BNL has had many good slow songs. This album is just boring and a waste of money.

4 out of 5 starsNot as good as their previous albums
I love the bare naked ladies, am a big fan, but this latest cd is more about head banging rock style songs, I love their ballads, but they jaz them up a bit too much for me. You hear rock songs in country music stations that pass themselves off as country, not! this is the same thing, sounds like they are making themselves harder rock, I don't the like the direction this is heading.

Please Bare naked Ladies go back to the vintage role of singing, I loved those songs.

5 out of 5 starsLove, love, love BNL
I love BNL and this CD did not let me down. I went to see the band in concert after getting this CD and they are even better live then they are on the CD. The band comes up with some of the most original lyrics and arrangements ! They are so unique, the music is refreshing and new in a land of cookie cutter bands. A friend went with me to the concert and he was not really familiar with the band but after the concert, he was hooked. if you like BNL, you will love this CD.
