Amazon.com: A James Bond-style action-adventure film for the tween and teen set based on Anthony Horowitz's book "Stormbreaker," Alex Rider--Operation Stormbreaker is a fast-paced action film shot in and around London that's bursting with suspense, intrigue, high-tech gadgetry, martial arts moves, and intense chase scenes featuring everything from cars and motorbikes to helicopters, quad bikes, bicycles, and horses. Alex Rider (Alex Pettyfer) thinks he's just an ordinary 14-year old kid, but when the uncle that raised him (Ewan McGregor) dies, he soon discovers that his uncle led a secret life as an intelligence agent and that he was secretly grooming Alex for a similar future with special intelligence division MI6. Motivated by revenge against his uncle's killers, Alex takes up where his uncle left off in the investigation of computer mogul Darrius Sayle (Mickey Rourke), delving into his seemingly philanthropic plan to supply a whole new breed of laptops to school children throughout the United Kingdom. Alex's undercover investigation quickly reveals Sayle's true motive and, without any real support or protection from his MI6 supervisors Alan Blunt (Bill Nighy) or Mrs. Jones (Sophie Okonedo) or his quirky housekeeper Jack Starbright (Alicia Silverstone), Alex must somehow prevail against the dangerous Mr. Sayle to safeguard the lives of thousands of innocent people. Comparable to Spy Kids and a step above Agent Cody Banks, Alex Rider--Operation Stormbreaker is an intense, believable film that will captivate viewers ages 10 and older. Bonus features include featurettes focusing on making the book into a film with author and screenwriter Anthony Horowitz, the extensive stunt work performed, the logistics involved in shooting a horse chase through Hyde Park and Piccadilly, visual effects by Baseblack, casting Alex, and the choreography of martial arts master Donnie Yen. --Tami Horiuchi
a good movie for kids! Our grandchildren really enjoyed this video, even though it is not a new one...we purchased it to take to a beach vacation, and a tropical storm kept us indoors for a day, so it was great to have something to entertain them. The action is exciting and the special effects are thrilling. It is refreshing to have a movie with patriotic characters who don't have to use profanity constantly. I would recommend it for 8-14 year olds, but we "old folks" watched it too!
Well... Nothing like the book. I know this is common, but honestly, a little much here...
Second, one of the only reasons to watch this movie is because "Obi-Wan" is in it!!!
Avoid unless you want kind of nonsensical action with some interesting twists.
Action packed, non-stop excitement! "ALEX RIDER: OPERATION STORMBREAKER" is of course not realistic at all, but it does not need to be. We can almost believe that the story is real, because the director, producers, writer (Anthony Horowitz, who also wrote the novel the film is based on), and actors do their best to make us believe. Rather than going in the tongue in cheek direction, like the earlier "AGENT CODY BANKS", they adapt a much more serious mindset and pessimistic outlook. Instead of the lead being a smart aleck, he is a very mature teenager well beyond his years, who takes his new position in the agency M16 seriously. He is not at all slick and perfect, but unsure of himself, and he makes mistakes. He does not own a cool sports car, is not 18, (which, according to Horowitz, was what the American producers wanted) but does have a girlfriend. In short, these attributes and qualities make "Stormbreaker" the much better movie. However, I do enjoy the "AGENT CODY BANKS" films, but they require the viewer to suspend their disbelief on a much higher level. The main plot is that Alex Rider (Alex Pettyfer) is a normal British schoolboy whose parents died when he was very young, and now lives with his uncle Ian Rider (Ewan McGregor) and eccentric American housekeeper Jack Starbright (Alicia Silverstone). Ian supposedly has a very boring job, for a bank, which keeps him away from home alot of the time. But he is eventually killed, and his suspicous acting fellow employees cover up the cause of death at the funeral as not wearing a seatbelt. Alex investigates, however, and is forced to participate in a wonderful, stunt laden fight sequence with a junkyard crew. He finds out that his uncle did not work for a bank, but actually was a special agent for M16, and was assassinated by Yassen Gregorovich (Damian Lewis) while on his way home with vital information from a mission. Alex is recruited by the director of M16, Alan Blunt (Bill Nighy) and his assistant Tulip Jones (Sophie Okonedo) to find out what Darrius Sayle (Mickey Rourke) along with his assistants Mr. Grin (Andy Serkis) and Nadia Vole (Missi Pyle) really intend by giving one of his company's own supercomputers to every school in the country. The cast is excellent, from the new star that has been found in Pettyfer, all the way to the veteran actor in Stephen Fry as Smithers. The action is fast and unforgiving, especially in the junkyard scene. The stunts are great, such as in the fight sequence at the Rider house between Jack and Nadia. A movie not to be missed!

THIS REVIEW IS DEDICATED TO ANYONE, LIVING OR DEAD, INVOLVED IN THE MAKING OF "ALEX RIDER: OPERATION STORMBREAKER".
Campy fun When watching this Agent Cody Banks came to mind frequently, though that is not fair to either movie. Of all things Man from U.N.C.L.E. came to mind also, I think because of the interplay between Alex, the reluctant agent, and the head of the agency, played over-the-top by the versatile Bill Nighy--from Love Actually, Shaun of the Dead and Underworld.
Then again, there is Spy Kids. But each movie has a slightly different take on things. I am a 50+ adult and enjoyed this movie more than others I've mentioned. Perhaps I enjoy the campy atmosphere of the movie, or the good direction and excellent special effects. In any case this is a solid 4-star entry in the genre.
Alex Rider Movie This movie is great to use in the classroom with the novel Stormbreaker. The movie is a little different than the novel and offers great teaching opportunities.
