In addition to protection updates, Norton AntiVirus provides new product features as available throughout your subscription period.

Amazon.com:
Norton AntiVirus 2007 blocks viruses and spyware with advanced protection. It automatically detects and removes viruses, spyware, unwanted adware, and Internet worms, and provides protection updates. Your purchase provides a full year of protection with regular updates from Norton to combat the latest Internet threats. The purchase of this product contains a licence for one user.

The 2007 version includes the new Security History feature to let you review detections and other actions taken by Norton AntiVirus. Also new for this release is Cookie Tracking Support, which gives you the ability to remove detected tracking cookies.

The improved user interface in AntiVirus 2007 contains a convenient, centralized location where you can review detections, items repaired, and action required.

The new Security History is a convenient, centralized location where you can review detections and other actions taken by Norton AntiVirus. AntiVirus 2007 continues to offer Auto-Protect, Worm Blocking and more alerts. It also provides the option to allow Norton AntiVirus to automatically take action or be alerted prior to taking action. This "set-it-and-forget-it" solution lets you view alerts when you want to, so you can let Norton AntiVirus take care of the rest. At your convenience you can visit the Security History to view detections made and actions already taken by Norton AntiVirus.

Tracking Cookie Support is also new for AntiVirus 2007. Upon scanning the system, tracking cookies will be detected and you will have the option to delete tracking cookies or ignore them. For some sites, you may want to allow cookies so that you don't need to sign into the site each time you visit it. But other cookies you may want to delete, such as those from third-party advertisers.

Internet Worm Protection has been enhanced for 2007 so that it now protects against entire categories of spyware, viruses, worms and Trojan horse programs. Rather than block individually identified threats, this feature now matches individual but unknown threats to known worm and virus families and blocks them from installing on the system without requiring specific virus or worm signatures, giving you zero-hour protection. This technology helps protects against new spyware, viruses and worm threats before they are even created.

Rootkit protection has been improved for AntiVirus 2007 to better guard against hidden threats such as rootkits, a type of virus that exhibits no discernible symptoms in order to evade detection. Previous versions of Norton AntiVirus already protect against user mode and application level rootkits. Leveraging VxMS technology acquired by Symantec through its merger with Veritas, Symantec has increased detection of emerging stealth threats by including patent-pending rootkit protection at the deepest level within the operating system. This protects against kernel mode rootkits that have dropped a driver onto the system. These threats may be invisible to Windows or other security software, but can be detected and removed by AntiVirus 2007.

Norton AntiVirus protects your computer with three distinct types of scans.
  • The Preinstall Scan detects and cleans spyware, viruses and worms on an already infected system. The enhanced pre-install scan now detects and removes high-risk spyware before AntiVirus is even installed.
  • QuickScan runs invisibly after you receive new virus definitions from Norton. QuickScan helps ensure that your computer is fully protected against even the newest threats. QuickScan has now expanded to search for other areas on the system such as "My Documents" and other areas of common infection.
  • Full Scan is a full-system scan that now includes a foreground and background throttling mode. The background throttling mode performs the scan using less processing power so users can continue working on their system without major performance impacts.

The Norton Protection Center has been completely redesigned to communicate security status simply and efficiently. You can browse easily through each drop-down category to view the status of the category’s security features. Overall computer status is always visible via the Norton Status icon on the taskbar or in the Windows system tray icon.

The improved Auto Protect Blocking detects and blocks incoming viruses, spyware and unwanted adware threats as they attempt to install and execute on your system. Auto Protect Blocking now blocks both threats and high security risks from ever installing on the system. It is always running invisibly in the background to protect your computers. The easy "install and forget" feature keeps you from having to make constant security decisions to keep your computer safe and protected.

Packer support has also been updated for 2007 to protect against virus hidden in compressed files or other masking technology. Many virus writers use packer tools to package up a virus such that the virus becomes difficult to detect. Sympack will now focus on unpacking the virus so that it can be detected.

4 out of 5 starsExcellent Tool!!
This product helps to protect and safeguard my computer from unwanted attempts at hacking into my system. A must have for the mobile professional.

4 out of 5 starsDecent, but not as good as the old NAV
This is a decent version of Symantec's Norton Antivirus line. It did slow my XP system down at first, but has run well on my laptop's Vista system. I got it to work well with XP by disabling some of the alerts and reducing the threat levels to medium. Thus said, it's reliable and it has done a good job of blocking two threats.
However, my only drawback is that you have to pay extra to get a multiple user version whereas the old days it would install on all my computers without having to purchase extra licenses. In that respect it's a ripoff. Also, I think from reading other reviews that the older Norton versions prior to 2005 were much better and I will admit that I dread each new version that comes out.
Thus, I would suggest buying a slightly older version and just pay for the renewal instead of going out and buying the latest version every year.

1 out of 5 starsworst software ever written
too many pop-ups. CCAPP.EXE is still the bigger POC ever written. It hangs once or twice a week. LiveUpdate notice is a new feature that will give you pop-ups on your desktop about new products, new features, upgrades etc. I guess too many people opt-out on email notices, so they decided to just put it on your desk top... advertising about their products. It will also be in 2008.

I would rather take my chances with nothing, than ever use a Norton product ever again.

1 out of 5 starsImagine everything that 2006 was and NAV 2007 has more bloat to spare!!
I am so disgusted with NAV 2007. I do not advise anyone to waste their money on this bloated product.
I installed it 3 days ago and I wished I had followed my gut feeling to not buy NAV anymore. I have been a faithful NAV customer since 2001, but that will change when this version expires, or I decide to chuck it and the money I invested in it, sooner.
This 2007 version has slowed my computer down so much, it is appauling. My computer crashes and I have to reboot to be able to search the web. My computer is new.
DON'T waste your money, I reccommend a free antivirus(AVAST or AVG) over this crap.

5 out of 5 starsHonest and Intelligent Review
I have read many people have had serious issues with this software, however, that mostly stems from computer and software ignorance rather than Norton 2007 being a poor program. Many people complain this program slows down their computer to the point they cannot use it. First of all, you don't need to set this software to run a virus scan when you turn on your computer. If you do this, you're simply an idiot. This program prevents you from acquiring viruses in the first place so running a scan at start up is completely frivolous. You only really need to run a scan maybe once a week and that's just for the heck of it really.

This anti-virus software has blocked at least a couple dozen viruses, trojans, and port attacks on my computer. I've had this software since the beginning of 2007 and I've been nothing but pleased with its performance. Any anti-virus program (when running a scan) uses up a large chunk of system resources. However, as I stated before, there's no reason to run a scan at startup or more than once a week b/c this program prevents you from acquiring any virus or trojans in the first place. Remember, don't set it to run a scan at start up and if you do run a scan, don't do anything else that's system resource intense while running it.

Another major point, make sure you delete your termporary internet files at least once a month. All those old web page pictures and such, from sites you'll never go to again, end up getting scanned b/c they are saved on your computer. Norton having to scan all this old junk takes a lot of time. If you delete this once a month, you'll cut down the time of the scan by almost half...seriously!

Also, make sure you defragment at least quarterly during the year. Installing/uninstalling programs leads to slower performance b/c files get fragmented. Also, make sure you have a decent hard drive in the first place. You should have at least an 80 gig by today's standards...and if yours is smaller, make sure you've got several gigs of free space at least. If not, of course your computer is going to run slowly no matter what you're doing...especially during a virus scan. It's up to you to take care of your computer and keep it running efficiently. If you don't, it's your fault not the software you're using. If you're hardware is out of date, it's time to upgrade and get with the times people.

If you're using an old/weak computer, of course you're going to experience a great decline in your system performance when running a scan. That's your problem for not having an updated system not the software's problem. If you aren't running a scan, this program does not drain your system resources and sits ready to stop any intrusion attempts when they occur. I'm using a P4 3.2 gig HT with 1 gig of RAM. Pretty basic tech by today's new duo and quad cores being the new standard. If you don't have at least a P4 that's running at least 2.8 gig...you're way behind the times and need to update your pc or laptop. Don't blame the software for being slow when it's your pc or laptop that's egregiously out of date.

Bottom line, Norton 2007 has proved itself to be a great product time and time again. It has saved me dozens of times from viruses, trojans, and intrusion attempts. Stop blaming this software for your ignorance and out of date computers.
