Exceptional Classic for the Intellectual This movie is outstanding - in the same realm as Requiem for a Dream. As a teacher myself, this movie captured difficult emotions/struggles of teachers never truly portrayed/addressed in any movies about the classroom atmosphere. Ryan Gosling should have won the Academy Award for his performance. Powerful scenes and incredible acting stays with you for days. The soundtrack is brilliant too. This is one of the best movies I have ever seen.
5 stars ( ...and that missing song) This soundtrack is great and important to the film. After seeing the film I knew I had to have the soundtrack but when I listend I noticed that a very important song was missing called Lover's Spit. From the scene on the couch. This version is sung by Feist and can be found on Broken Social Scenes EP cd called Bee Hives.
Good Mix Honestly, I bought this soundtrack for the Broken Social Scene tracks, but I really enjoyed some of the other pieces on here. If you're a fan of this movie or are looking for some new indie rock or hip-hip tracks, this would probably be a good buy for you.
Great soundtrack to a terrific film Wow, I can't believe no one has reviewed this yet... Anyway, I'd rank the Half Nelson soundtrack as one of the better soundtracks of 2006. Marie Antoinette's post-punk may be all the rage in the airwaves now, but Half Nelson puts in more work in mixing both indie rock and hip-hop in the same album. Crazy! Tracks worth listening to here include Billy Bragg's "New England"; The Marshall Tucker Band's bluesy "Can't You See?"; Rhymefest's "Wanted"; and of course, Broken Social Scene (whose tunes pretty much carry the entire film).
