Amazon.com:
Full of action, intrigue, and espionage, The Unit offers a dramatic, fictionalized look inside the military while also giving viewers a peek inside the private lives of the elite squad. Conceived by the critically acclaimed David Mamet (Glengarry Glen Ross, House of Games), The Unit is an elite, covert Special Forces team that operates outside the military chain of command. The first season's 13 episodes offer insight into the characters without revealing too much about the men who make up the operation. Are they extremely patriotic, or are they adrenalin junkies who have to be in danger to feel validated? The answer probably falls somewhere in between, and the viewer gets the feeling that as much as the men love their wives and children, it's their jobs that give them their true reason for living. Led by veteran Jonas Blane (Dennis Haysbert, 24), the Unit deals with terrorism, rescue missions, and assassinations quickly, discreetly, and efficiently. If all goes well, someone else gets the credit. If things go awry, it's their necks on the line. In the first season of The Unit--which aired from March to May 2006 as a mid-season replacement--the action is fast, the plot is succinct, and the acting is well done (when dealing with the deadly missions). It's the secondary storyline involving the wives that's less successful. The newest member of the Unit, Bob Brown (Scott Foley, Felicity), apparently didn't fill his wife Kim (Audrey Marie Anderson) in on what their new life would be like. From the beginning, she resists the hoo rah attitude that the other wives exhibit. But rather than coming across as an independent free thinker, she is presented as a whining drip of a woman who has no clue about the definition of a secret. Of course, when faced with the military's version of The Stepford Wives, who could blame her? As Jonas' supportive wife Molly, Regina Taylor (I'll Fly Away, Courage Under Fire) is less sympathetic than usual. In the early episodes, she comes across as an almost stalkerish busybody who is always there when Kim is trying to cope with a life she never wanted. Throw in an affair between commanding officer Colonel Tom Ryan (Robert Patrick, Terminator 2: Judgment Day) and one of the wives and you've got the makings of a military soap opera. The show is at its best when it concentrates on the men and their missions. We may not understand why they do what they do, but we're grateful that someone is doing the dangerous job for us. --Jae-Ha Kim

4 out of 5 starsThe Unit - Season 1
Due to my mistake I purchased this DVD believing that I would be able to view it on my DVD Player which wasn't the case due to Region Codes. Apart from that I received the products quickly, they were cheap in comparision to prices in Australia and are of good quality.

4 out of 5 starsPromising, but lost steam...
I bought this largely because the cast looked interesting and the premise was also good. However, after the initial stuff (the inspiration for various plot devices can clearly be traced to Eric Haney's book, Inside Delta Force), the series descends into a bit of a formula. Furthermore, the Affair was highly uncomfortable and never properly dealt with. Finally, although this is more relevant for season 2 than season 1, the show further descended into nonsense in season 2 when, out of the blue, it seemed to become a political thriller rather than an action-based shoot-fest. The writers of the TV series put too many irons in the fire, and do not properly deal with the various plot threads that they start...

5 out of 5 stars"The Unit" may not be returning for the Fall 2008 season...
"The Unit" and it's actors are one my favorite shows and as soon as I heard that Season 1 was out on DVD Iknew I had to have it but checking the local stores I found out quickly that Amazon had BY FAR the best price even after shipping.
I apologize to Amazon for not getting Season 2 (there have only been 2 seasons before the writer's strike and it is rumored that The Unit may be cut.) but I found it locally on sale so I now have both.
I don't know what happened with season 2 but Amazon did not have the best price (after shipping for it).
For you fans of "The Unit" the DVDs are very nice in that the show is more "fluid" without the advertising interrupting the most important scenes. The Unit - The Complete First SeasonThe Unit - The Complete Second Season
Also you need to get the second season after the season-ending cliffhanger that was the last show of season 1.

5 out of 5 starsKeeps you on the edge of your seat
My husband and I have enjoyed this TV series together so much. Each show has action and real life drama to keep your interest. The writers put so much thought into making it real. Well thought out and acted out. If you have never seen "The Unit" you are missing out. We would recommend this to anyone. You'll love it. America's military personal,we salute you!

5 out of 5 stars303rd Logistical Study Group
The Unit is a Special Force commando team lead by actor Dennis Haysbert. Their missions are guaranteed to capture the workings of terrorism, espionage, and threats from foreign hostile forces. They are an elite team, whose dedication seems overwhelmingly patriotic. While the rangers demonstrate superb training in the field, their lives on base has a complacency reminiscence of the same trappings in most families. At home, rows of average middle class homes are surrounded by lovely gardens. A wife, children, and the casual connection between
neighbors adds a fiendish twist to the Unit. Moral issues have a tendency to surprise viewers in an alarming way. The men, who reside in harm's way, adjust rather quickly to moral issues, their spouses, living on base, aren't always as lucky. For example, when Tiffy has an affair with unit commander Tom Ryan, her secret threatens to end not only her spouse's career, the affair becomes the target of suspicion from the seemingly Stepford wives club on base. Another major incident occurs when Molly (Jonas' supportive wife) relinquishes real estate funds to a con-artist. The tragic circumstance involves her account, and investment funds from other spouses on base. Having an A Team-B Team operation, keeps viewers on the edge of their seats.

What risks are involved in public safety if the armed forces fail? Who are the men, women, and children stationed at military bases across the United States and over seas? What is their part in national security?

Society has a frontline view of real-life military issues taken to an extreme. In the Unit, field assignments are secret operations, using the cover name 303rd logistical study group. Although, these soldiers are far from being researchers and desk sergeants, who grapple with files, documents, and typed orders. The series is non-stop pounding action.

There is absolutely no doubt how the Unit became CBS's number one television show. A behind the scenes look at producers David Mamet (Pulitzer Prize-Winning Playwright), and Shawn Ryan (The Shield, Angel), informs viewers that more action-packed drama has yet to arrive. Since military lifestyle foreshadows every aspect of daytime drama in real life, it follows, that performances emulating what we see and hear daily advances what is considered a pop culture phenomenon.
