Editorial Comments

Product Description:
A fresh take on the irreverent 1976 comedy hit, "The Bad News Bears" follows a grizzled former minor league baseball player who is recruited to coach a woefully inept Little League team to a championship against their hated rivals, the Yankees.

Amazon.com:
In a fitting follow-up to Bad Santa and Friday Night Lights, Billy Bob Thornton makes the most of the remake trend in Bad News Bears. He's just the right guy to inherit Walter Matthau's role from the original 1976 version about a lousy Little League team baseball team coached by a curmudgeonly drunk, and the original team of misfits has been updated (but not upgraded) to an ethnic mix that includes an Indian math whiz, a pair of Latino twins, and a paraplegic kid who doesn't play until the final championship game. It's a little sad to see a talented director like Richard Linklater doing an unnecessary remake, but his experience on School of Rock made him the obvious choice to mine comedy gold from the collision of Thornton and a batch of unruly, prepubescent kids (including Sammi Kraft, an all-star Little Leaguer in the role originated by Tatum O'Neal). With Marcia Gay Harden and Greg Kinnear in supporting roles, this isn't family fare (the potty-mouthed kids deservedly earned a PG-13 rating), but Thornton's easygoing presence makes it worthwhile for anyone who's not too attached to the original version. --Jeff Shannon

1 out of 5 starsPoor language & equally poor message
This movie is a far cry from the original.

I lost track of how many times the kids and adults in this film swore gratuitiously. Worse yet, when the winning team acknowledges the Bears hard work and achievements, instead of viewers being rewarded with a scene exhibiting good sportsmanship, the film makers decide to have the losing team learn nothing, except how to deliver the film's seemingly trademark message of "Kiss my ***".

5 out of 5 starsNice film
I bought this film for my cousin who watched this movie on HBO. I am not very intrested in films but my cousin tells me that this is one of the best american films he has seen till now. It appears that kids will enjoy this film but elders may not.

3 out of 5 starsFunny if uninspired
I didn't think this was as awful as many reviews claim, in fact I think it is "good old days" hindsight that has many claim the original was so much better. In fact, this is almost a carbon copy of the original from the musical score right down to the disturbing clone who plays Tanner. There are updates to be sure and I thought there were some unnecessary moments and changes made (why the switch from Chico's Bail Bonds to a strip club?) but it is every bit as "offensive" as it was in 1976 and it is what it is: a crude movie about a bunch of misfits who show the sleepy little world of suburbia that not everyone is a perfect little tool. Is it an original idea? No. But it does make for some good laughs and there is enough of a message, albeit a heavy-handed one, about sportsmanship, the "everyone's a winner" mentality vs. the "win at all costs" attitude, and acceptance.
Billy Bob Thornton and Greg Kinnear do well reprising Matthau and Morrow and the kids are all fittingly obnoxious when they need to be.

1 out of 5 starszero stars
There was nothing on so I decided to watch this piece of crap movie. No wonder kids nowadays are so stupid and bratty, their parents let them watch and act like the ones on this movie...and celebrating at a certain 'adult'/desperate mens restaurant with kids? Come on! I cant believe how many people thought this movie was good, or even OK. Its garbage and shows how low society is falling.

5 out of 5 starsFunny move
I love this movie. I had it already on DVD. Now I have it for Psp to take along on trips.
