Description: Maverick tells the story of Brett and Bart Maverick. These "fancy pants" gamblers roam from town to town during the era of the great old west looking for a good game; inevitably, making enemies when they won and extricating themselves from rough situations when they lost.
Maverick This DVD was fine. I would like to have all of the complete seasons.
Good Show It's cool to see James Garner so young. It's a pretty well-done show, and much more interesting to me than most of the shows of its era. It's got a bit of that old 50's style cheeziness, but not too much. It's a much more interesting take to me on the old west, a little less gunfighting and a lot more con artistry.
I bought Maverick for a birthday gift This was a gift for my husband, he is a very big western fan. I am pleased with this video, with the quality of the dvd and with the family quality of nearly all the shows from the 70's. My husband enjoyed the nostalgia of watching a video that he enjoyed from years ago.
Maverick rides again The three episodes chosen for this DVD are excellent examples of a tv show in its prime. I do wish that there had been more episodes on the disc, but for $4.00, there really is no room for much complaint.
I hope that the powers that be decide to release "Maverick" season by season or at least a multi-disc 'Best of Bart", "Best of Brett", "Best of Beau" set. This was definately one of the best comedy-Western shows on TV (second only to "Bonanza").
Maverick (Television Favorites) I finally decided to buy this because, apparently, Warner Brothers is reticent about releasing Maverick in its entirety on DVD. C'mon Warner, this audience isn't getting any younger; the longer you wait only decreases the potential number of customers willing to buy this!
That being said, I'll talk about what's on this disc. It has three episodes & they are among the best episodes of Maverick. The three episodes are "Shady Deal at Sunny Acres", "Pappy" & "Gun-Shy". There are probably another 20 to 25 episodes of Maverick that are just as good as these. The only one I felt shouldn't have been here is "Shady Deal..." because it includes all the semi-regulars in small roles that are assisting Maverick in the con. Unless you're a big fan of Maverick & have seen most (or all) the episodes, this cast of semi-regulars doesn't come across with the same impact because you don't know of their previous history with the Maverick brothers. So, the inside joke of this cast is lost upon any viewer that's not familiar with the other shows. The three episodes featured here include the humor & satirical bite of the traditional Maverick episodes. These are indicative episodes of Maverick, representing the entire series. These elements are well showcased & these are the things that made Maverick so popular in its day as well as making it standout among all the more traditional Westerns of the fifties.
If you're a fan of Maverick I would highly recommend buying this single DVD issue. But, hey Warner Brothers, what's the deal; get off your can & release this stuff! What's the matter? You think James Garner is going to sue you again? Pay him the money he deserves (or thinks he deserves) so we can get this stuff.
