Amazon.com: It's rare to see two marquee-name composers credited for a score, but perhaps two people were needed to come up with something that would stand up to the memory of Danny Elfman's work on the 1989 Batman. Just as director Christopher Nolan's back-in-black approach is quite different from Tim Burton's phantasmagorical one, Hans Zimmer and James Newton Howard's take doesn't bear much kinship to Elfman's. (You'd be hard-pressed to find any recognizable theme here, for instance.) Mostly the composers remain conservatively subtle, though coming up with the expected pounding on grandiose, action-y selections such as "Myotis" and "Antrozous" (no, the poetic-sounding track names aren't lifted from old Cocteau Twins records but refer to various types of bats). Stand-out track "Tadarida" incorporates some of the distorted vocal effects associated with the Scarecrow's drug-induced nightmarish visions. Atmospheric to the point of evanescence sometime, the individual tracks tend to meld into each other after a while. The sense of stylistic continuity helps establish an overall mood, but sometimes it's hard to distinguish between shades of black. --Elisabeth Vincentelli
Excellent Service The service was excellent. The CD was in excellent condition. It came on time. I would recommend buying from Amazon.
Batman has begun While not quite as iconic as Danny Elfman's score from Tim Burton's Batman film, or any of the recent Batman animated series, this score is well suited to the film.
Nice touch with the first letters of tracks 4-9 spelling out BATMAN.
The Ever Changing Moods of a Superhero A pair of titans - Hans Zimmer and James Newton Howard - use their incredible artistry to approach separate themes surrounding Bruce Wayne/Batman; Zimmer tackles the action sequences, while Newton Howard delves into the character scenes.
Through electronic music and orchestral pieces, the 12 tracks depict the split personality of the superhero, with song titles that are different genera of bats (with a key word spelled out from the first letter of six titles). Though the composers had an ambitious 2 hours and 20 minutes of music for the film, the album "only" clocks in at 60:26.
A surprisingly difficult album to track down, it is some of the most fascinating work from both composers.
zimmers zat it again Awesome. The track titles are too cool. Hans is the mans! Kind of dark for everyday listening, but great "I'm on a mission" driving music. The price on this one spikes so be careful.
Nice sounding album If you're a fan of Hans Zimmer and James Newton Howard then you'll enjoy this album. The movie was pretty good, but I was more interested in the music composed for the movie. Each one of these songs is heart throbbing, period. I think you will enjoy this album, particularly because of the design made by Zimmer and Howard. Another movie to compare to would be 'Black Hawk Down' by Zimmer. As usual, his soundtracks are some of the greatest. It seems these days that I listen to soundtracks more than typical music.
I often listen to artists like Andrea Bocelli and music by Zimmer, Howard, Isham, and Goldsmith (to name a few). I can't say enough about this album and am sure you will enjoy it. If you crank up the bass on your sub woofer, you'll experience an amazing throb of bass from the different songs.
You can also compare this album to Zimmer's 'Tears of the Sun', which by the way was also a great movie, including the soundtrack.
