Product Description:
Mild-mannered Stanley Ipkiss (Jim Carrey) takes Edge City by storm when he stumbles upon a mysterious and ancient mask.Running Time: 97 min.Format: DVD MOVIE Genre: COMEDY UPC: 794043810824

Amazon.com:
For a film heavily dependent on special effects, the best effect going in this 1994 comedy is the ever-expressive star, Jim Carrey, playing a shy bank teller who stumbles across an ancient mask that turns him into a green hepcat with extraordinary powers. Cameron Diaz plays the love interest, but the real purpose of the movie is to bring cartoonish energy and effects into a live-action production. Toward that end, director Charles Russell does the job, but the gimmick wears out quickly for those easily bored by this sort of pseudo-animation. Lots of kids adore the film, though, and why not? The hero gets to be a whirlwind of mischief and still get the girl. The DVD release includes optional full-screen and widescreen presentations, deleted scenes, trailers, optional French soundtrack and optional French and Spanish subtitles. --Tom Keogh

3 out of 5 starsNot so funny now.
The Mask starring Jim Carrey was pretty funny and refreshing when it was released in 1994 but unfortanely this film fades with time. Carrey always gives a good performance but he's also kinda scary as the Mask. This movie is also the film debut of Cameron Diaz, she's va va voom in this one, she has great sex appeal. Good comedy but I'm pretty much over it.

4 out of 5 starsSMOKIN'! This ISN'T Your Same Old Mask!
The Mask (1994)
(8.5/10)
I wasn't going to remark on this one, but this release I just picked up surprised me. I was at the WalMart with the missus, and we passed by the bargain bin, and of course I was dragged in by it but this time she joined me. She pulled out The Mask & said "Why don't we ever watch this one?", and I said "Because I never bought it, I'm waiting for a newer version, that one was made around 1997, probably looks pretty bad." But then she pointed out from the back that they credited "Lemony Snicket" from 2005. "Oh, they just updated the cover, but the disc probably is the same inside". Anyway she said I've bought worse for $5, so pick it up at least for our daughter, and I did.

Glad I did it, because I was wrong! Though the covers for the two are similar, this is a brand new 2005 re-release with 4 new documentaries and a new additional commentary. The transfer's gotta be new too because it looked great. Sure, you lose the FullFrame on the flip now (good riddance), but New Line should of packaged this differently because it's almost impossible to tell that this is a new version of the DVD. And for 5 bucks it's definitely worth the double dip. Just remember, the old version has a black background behind Carrey on the cover, the new one
is cloud-filled blue.

A great classic of a film that has so many firsts in it:the start of CGI becoming useful, as well as the film career starts for both Jim Carrey & Cameron Diaz (of which the extras give plenty of new attention to). After what each of them have released recently, revisiting this will remind you what potential they once had. Sad to see Richard Jeni, a talented stand-up comedian, who got his big break in this film, due to his real-life suicide 13 years later, but all together this was a fun time. Worthy of your collection (this disc version at least).

5 out of 5 starsOutstanding comedy!
Stanley Impkiss (Jim Carrey) was your basic bank clerk who is a nice guy but has some problems. He soon discovers a mysterious magical ancient mask by the beach as he later puts it on and changes him into a crazy green-faced cartoony being called The Mask. He does weird and amusing things as he fights crime and make people laugh including the power to romance a sexy nightclub dancer named Tina (Cameron Diaz), but mob boss Dorian Tyrell (Peter Greene) wants him dead.

Hilarious and creative fantasy-comedy inspired by a Dark Horse Comic book ! while the original comic books were dark and violent, the filmmakers like Chuck Russell (Who did "Nightmare on Elm Street 3" and the 1988 "Blob") had to made it a little light hearted for the screen yet it worked like a charm. Cameron Diaz makes her debut in this film and made alot of men's mouths drop like the character in this picture, i like how this movie uses amazing special effects by Industrial Light and Magic to make the bizarre cartoony character's special powers and Tex Avery-esque gags come to life on the screen. Jim Carrey's physical comedy also provides good laughs as always, the film become a suprise box-office hit and one of the best comedies of the 90's! It's a must watch for the whole family.

This DVD contains good picture and sound with some very good extras like Audio commentary, deleted scenes, Cameron Diaz screen test, three featurettes, and the trailer to this and other trailers from New Line Cinema.

Also recommended: "Hellboy", "Sin City", "Superman 1 & 2", "Spider-Man Trilogy", "Batman Begins", "Who Framed Roger Rabbit", "Ichi The Killer", "Dick Tracy", "Kung-Fu Hustle", "Batman (1989)", "Batman Returns", "Beetlejuice", "Drop Dead Fred", "DarkMan", "Superman Returns", "Hulk", "The Incredibles", "Young Frankenstein", "Hot Shots!", "The Crow".

5 out of 5 starsMask is fatastic one
The Mask DVD is very fantastic on the basis of clarity and sound. It is very good 5.1 sound out.

5 out of 5 starsDon't forget the dog!!!
Like others reviewing this DVD I am not a big Jim Carey fan. He does create a sympathetic character in this movie. This is the first movie that I remember seeing Cameron Diaz and her beauty in this film is breathtaking. For me however an unmentioned hero in other reviews is the dog. The dog saves the day and actually gets the mask on his face and then everybody has to Watch Out! The film is worth a watch. :-)
