Editorial Review : Reading is fundamental, and now it’s fun, too! A joint production of Scholastic and Fisher-Price, the Read with Me DVD series reinvents classic children’s stories, animating words and images in an exciting way that encourages story comprehension, reading, and vocabulary skills. Slip in any of the series DVDs and the television transforms into a library. Miss Spider’s Tea Party by David Kirk is a classic story about the rewards of kindness, as a gentle spider searches for friendship. Kids can listen and watch the animated story, or choose to play along using the sturdy wireless console (sold separately). Read & Play brings the animated tale to life--words highlight as the narrator reads along, asking fun questions that encourage story comprehension and vocabulary skills. Story Games offers enjoyable, interactive games and the Parent Guide contains tips for reading aloud. As reading skills develop, My Turn to Read encourages children to read at their own pace without the narrator. With over 100 activities and interactive questions, Miss Spider’s Tea Party is sure to please both parents and preschoolers. --Heather Lyndon
Good Enough to Buy Again! This is my kiddos favorite of the RWM DVDs we have. They like it so much I'm ordering another one because wee-one cracked our first copy trying to get it out of the case (it's always hazardous for a parent to go to the restroom *wry grin*). I agree with the previous review that the games are a bit more educationally minded than some of the other discs. I appreciate having a decent alternative to simply parking the kiddos to be babysat by the tv during those moments you have to sort out without kiddos underfoot. They're still being parked, but at least it's with something they enjoy and isn't complete twaddle and fluff. (and I FAR prefer it to what I've seen of friends' V-Tech stuff--it's too similar to video games for my preferences).
EDUCATIONAL DVD THAT TEACHES A FEW LESSONS.
This DVD is about Miss Spider trying to find guests to come to have tea with her. It teaches children that sometimes what they think a person is like isn't always true. That they need to take the time to get to know someone new. I like the moral lesson involved and the fact that the games are more educational than some other DVDs for this product. One game deals with counting, number recognition, patterns and shapes. So not only is my son learning to appreciate stories and comprehension but other educational skills are being reinforced as well. I would highly recommend this DVD if someone is interested in purchasing more in the series. This DVD is one that is both fun and educational.
