Very Disappointing If you are an avid Adam West or Burt Ward fan this is the video for you. If you are a fan of the old Batman and Robin series that you watched as a kid and would like to see old episodes, don't buy. It is very disappointing to see Batman and Robin as they are now riding in the Batmobile. That is a video that we can do without.
return to the batcave the movie was a very similar type as the original Batman. it was funny t watch and see them now. good quality dvd.
Fun If you are an obsessive (or maybe even casual) fan of the "Batman" television series (120 episodes on ABC from 1966 to 1968), you are likely to enjoy this 2003 made-for-TV feature; which works best for viewers who can appreciate the many inside jokes.
Dawn Wells was one of the producers of "Return to the Batcave: The Misadventures of Adam and Burt" (2003) and the concept is much like what she did with "Surviving Gilligan's Island: The Incredibly True Story of the Longest Three -Hour Tour in History " (2001).
The idea is to cut back and forth between the 2003 reminiscences of Adam West (the original Batman) & Burt Ward (Robin), and two different actors Jack Brewer & Jason Marsden playing the Batman and Robin parts in recreated versions of 1960's scenes and behind-the -scenes stuff. It's not a collection of old clips from the series, although there are some clips from the theatrical movie "Batman" (1966).
The excuse for Adam and Burt getting back together is the theft of the original Batmobile from a charity event. As they work together to solve the crime they reminisce about the original show, the recreated Jack/Jason scenes fade in as the Adam/Burt discussion fades out.
The writing is not particularly clever, the performances are nothing special, and the budget is not particularly large (factors which nicely match those of the original series), but an assortment of old cast members make an appearance and everyone seems to be having a good time working on this reunion project. It is even more obvious that West modeled the original Batman's speech patterns on Clayton Moore's "The Lone Ranger".
As most fans know, West had to restrain his acting for the series but he fully grasped the humor of playing the role entirely straight, while Ward's total lack of prior experience and marginal talent proved an asset as his Robin characterization actually worked better "because" his acting was so wooden.
Then again, what do I know? I'm only a child.
NOT THE SAME BAT CHANNEL This is unlike anything you've ever seen before when it comes to the notorious Adam West, and undisputable boy wonder, Burt Ward. However, it still embraces the campy silliness of the popular cult 60s tv series. Here the old legends must recall their younger days at casting, auditioning, and dressing in costume for location shots. Ironic that the production uses todays music for those scenes. Of course it's silly, would the original cast members want it any other way? How else could they possibly be comfortable! When Julie Newmar appears, I am glued to the set, still camping it out with Adam West in seductive number. The big congratulations must go to the new cast. Jack Brewer has the Adam West vocals so well, I broke out in laughter. His new sidekick actor has a striking resemlance to the original Burt Ward, even if they focus on his clumsiness a bit much. Both are striking in full costume, and if not for that, this production would have failed miserably. Alas. . . it's back to the batcave with both of them, with incredible sets like the original, and fun is to be had by all, who really loved BATMAN! BATMAN! BATMAN! BATMAN! BATMAN! BATMAN!BATMAN!
An open Request To the owners of the t.v. series starring adam west and burt ward: Please, please put the show on dvd soon, so we can share this wonderful show with our children before they grow up. It was done so well, good clean humor and it's obvious the actors are enjoying making the show. I will pre-order the moment you decide to release.
