Product Description: This western pistol has been designed after the original pistol of the Wild West era. It is constructed with solid die-cast metal that looks like real antique metal and quality plastic that looks just like real wood. Vinyl holster with belt. 11" long;
Amazing find turns into a broken dissapointment I was initially really pleased with this toy, as it is big and heavy and has excellent detailing. It's definitely not another flimsy plastic toy. My son was very happy and went through a number of cap rings those first few days. Unfortunately, as a few other reviews noted, there are some small plastic parts inside and they just don't hold up. I think ours made it about 4 months.
I don't know why it didn't occur to the manufacturer that a tiny piece of plastic isn't a good choice for holding together two pieces of large, heavy metal. My son is begging for a new gun, but I don't want to hand over another $[...] for something that will inevitably break a few weeks or months later.
Gun & holster Fairy heavy metal gun, but trigger and handle got loose after very little use. Very real looking though.
Fun at First, but didn't Pass the "Test of Time" Well, I bought Six of these Gun/Holster sets in March 2007, for my Grandchildren (actually one was for me!), along with 1000 rounds of the 12-shot Ring Caps. At first, they were great: the detail and looks are excellent. We fired a few Ring caps, and all was well. You use something like this once in while, so it took a while to see the problems. After a few months of intermittent use, the gun no longer stays closed after you insert caps, because the "keeper" is made of plastic. So, the gun either won't stay closed, or it closes and then springs open when you fire it. Next, the gun seizes and won't fire. You pull the trigger, you hear a snap, but the cylinder doesn't turn. Or, on some, you pull the trigger and it moves freely with no action. Oil and spray cleaners won't help. So, after about 6 to 7 months of intermittent use by children from five thru 13, and one who is over 60, none of them work. I now have 700 rounds of Ring caps that I'll sell on Ebay. The "looks and detail" are great, but they work well for only a short period, so you have to make a decision. I know cap guns: I have a collection, including my original cap guns from the 1950s, and they all still work. I would pay two to three times the price of this gun to get something that would last - wouldn't you? The holster won't hold up, but you can't be picky about getting both for this price.
Old fashion fun toy! The envy of all the neighborhood kids! It is hard to find these in toy stores today. All the kids in the neighbor want to play with it (all ages). It is our 3rd one we have bought. The first 2 for my kids and this 3rd one for my newphew.
Great Buy The Big Tex Holster Set was really great. The product is very sturdy and has great weight and construction. The holster set is a little big for smaller kids, but adjustable and it is nice that is will fit for a long time. I suppose it is not really educational so I hate to give it any bad grades, but my son loves to play Woody and Cowboy in general and it fits in with all the other dress-up pretend play stuff we have. I was really pleased with the quality as he is "boy-tough" on toys and most discount toys do not hold up to real play.
