Amazon.com: The fourth Gundam feature (1988) takes place 14 years after the third and continues the rivalry between Earth Federation mecha pilot Amuro Ray and Char Aznable, now ruler of the space realm of Neo-Zeon. Char so hates the Earth, he plans to bombard the planet with asteroids, causing a deadly nuclear winter. Although the corrupt Earth Federation commands vastly superior resources, all that really stands in Char's way is Amuro and his Nu Gundam Mobile Suit. Writer-director Yoshiyuki Tomino continues the story of the Newtypes, humans who possess psychic powers. The latest possessor of these abilities is Quess Paraya, an obnoxious teenager who whines and fusses until she's finally killed. Char's Counterattack is essentially a two-hour space battle, and although Tomino had only limited technology at his disposal, the choreography of the mecha duels is generally effective and exciting. Rated 13 Up: Violence, mostly robot vs. robot. --Charles Solomon
disappointing if you're in for the story, i recommend watching this only for closure. especially if you sat through the whole double zeta series like i did.
i really wish they would've at least given this a mini series to add more depth to the story. also, i really wish they would get rid of the horrible teenage girl characters that just distract you from the real story and add frustration and embarassment for the way these characters act.
it seems that this movie almost ignored everything that happened after the original gundam series and acts as a direct sequel. char ends up looking like a yuppie and amuro barely looks any different at all.
i'm taking a break from the universal century after this disappointment and i'll watch gundam wing.
MSG Char's Counter Attack The Final Confrontation When this first came out many American gundam fans had not seen much of what happened in between 0083 and this (Zeta Gundam and ZZ Gundam). I like to see things in order but other people were fine with it. I did make an exception for this though and I'm glad I did. It has a sad but hopeful ending. I will not give away more than that.
Is this really Tomino's best? Is this really Tomino's best? After watching First Gundam and Zeta Gundam I was in totally outraged with how badly it didnt live up to its predecessors. Its definately not the worst movie I have ever seen but come on there are too many problems with this movie. First there is Quess who i couldn't stand and took up the whole first half of the movie for nothing. Then there is the fact that they dubbed this before dubbing Zeta Gundam so a lot of the plot is confusing. Also the ending wasn't too bad but still could've been better and to make matters worse its like all that fighting in this movie only to show the climax of Amuro and Char's rivalry because in F91 and so on there is more fighting so this is just another pointless fight. But probably the worst thing about this movie is the lack of characters from the original spefically Sayla. I mean there is a total love-hate triangle between Sayla, Char and Amuro. Amuro and Char ate each others guts each other, Sayla and Char are siblings and Amuro and Sayla were lovers in the novels (it is only hinted at in Zeta) and they didnt even show Sayla trying to talk Char out of it. Also I would have liked to have seen Kamille team up with Amuro again but thats not a necesity. If you watch it just skip to the battle scenes. The only reason I don't give this movie 1 star is because the battle scenes were awesome and so was the music but that doesnt make up for all the problems.
Great movie, but don't order this item The movie is great, don't get me wrong. I borrowed a friend's copy and loved it so much I had to have one for myself. Of course, the collector in me wanted the nice version, with the sleek slip cover and Neo Zeon symbol. Don't bother trying to get that here. When my order came in, it was sans slip cover and booklet. If you're fine with that, than order yours today. If you aren't shop around, because there are places that will actually give you what you try to purchase.
A great ending to the legends of Gundam... U.C. 0093. Thirteen years after the end of the One Year War, the legendary Char Aznable has returned. Vowing to defeat the Earth Federation and complete humanity's migration into space, Char and his Neo Zeon forces begin bombarding Earth with asteroids in order to render the planet uninhabitable.
With the Federation too weak and corrupt to oppose Neo Zeon, the task of thwarting Char's plan falls to the Londo Bell taskforce and its ace pilot, Amuro Ray. The old rivalry of Char and Amuro begins again, and this time the fate of the world hangs in the balance...
Overall, this is what I considered the best movie in the series.
