Product Description: Virtual PC 2004 lets you create virtual drives that run their own operating systems. Run DOS, Linux, OS X and OS/2 applications on the same machine -- and switch between drives with a click! Convenience and accelerated development come together with VirtualPC 2004!
MS VPC is Free to Download Hopefully you have read this far in the reviews; FYI you can download MS VPC for free from Microsoft directly.
Easy and flexible software Microsoft Virtual PC 2004 is very easy to use and allows running old DOS programs if they do not work with Windows versions higher than 98.
I have not tried it with Vista.
Great now that its FREE Microsoft, in July, 2006, made both Virtual PC 2004 and Virtual Server free for download, and also that the next version, Virtual PC 2007, will also be free. It supports all Windows OSs (less 64 bit XP and beta vista, but these will be supported in the next release). The only problem that i can see is that Windows 95 runs like a bat out of hell, sound skips and everything runs way to fast, hopefully this will be fixed in 2007 too. The emulated specs are pretty low, but considering this thing wasnt built for gaming or heavy media, it works well, and it runs the old legacy games (80s-late 90s) great albiet a tad fast sometimes. I run Win2K myself, and i run a pretty exact duplicate virtually so that i can see pretty much what a new questionable probram will do to it, and its a great way to make sure something is virus and spyware free since it cant escape the virtual disk. Also be sure you install the VMS Extensions (Action -> install or update). Since you can let it access your COM, LPT, and Network ports you can print, go onine (via external modem), and print from within it as well. Bottom line: excellent program to use if you want to run legacy programs and have some fun, as well as be able to test how new stuff will run under different versions of an ap on different OSs. READ THESE NOTES FIRST: 1) When you install Windows 95 BE SURE you DO NOT enable large disk support as this will format the disk as Fat32 which win95 dont support 2) This isnt built for gaming, that means that most anything more advanced than..Doom95 probobly wont run right, but then again anything more advanced than that 99% of the time will run on the host machine anyway 3) DO NOT buy this program, its free, and will soon be dated by the 2007 version 4) When it says anything about formatting or will erase everything on the disk, DONT PANIC, its just talking about the virtual disk, its normal 5) This thing will eat ram, so check microsoft's website on VPC 2004 for the ammount of RAM necessary. 6) have fun!
virtual PC 2004 is free microsoft is giving it away free. look it up on google. It is appaling that amazon is trying to charge $100+ bucks for something that is available for free. The other alternative is VMware which is also free (the GSX edition).
Excellent Software for anyone with a fast PC Putting aside the obvious advantages to all I.T. professionals, I'd say that this is one of the best applications I've ever used. I use it now, almost exclusively, to surf the net with near complete immunity to harmful attacks on the host. Running untested programs on Virtual PC has saved me time and helped decide whether or not to use them on the Host PC. Checking my e-mail is now safe, allowing me to only transfer the stuff I really want to the real hard drive using drag and drop! Best of all, if the Virtual Machine is compromised in anyway all you have to do is delete any changes and restart it; presto instant restore! I would recommend this program to anyone(Provided their system is able to run it smoothly), and hope the next revision allows for a better connection to external devices like the USB and Fire-wire Ports(Currently No Support), Display and Sound Adaptors(Uses emulated drivers), etc.
