never as good as the original. ^ I enjoyed the new hyped up graphics that the original didn't have, but I've played the original so many times it's not even funny. What I don't like is it's not as epic as the first MGS on the playstation. The emotional moments don't capture someone as well as the first, the dialogue sounds like the voice actors were all hung over and didn't want to come to work that day, and the music blows. I would recommend this game IF AND ONLY IF, you've played the original!! I'll give it 4 stars instead of 3 just to be fair. I'm too hardcore of a metal gear fan to give it any less.
Twin Snakes ^ Game is awesome along with the original. A little too much matrix remake but still the same mgs experience.
mgs for gc??? ^ I was quite suprised at first to see hideo kojima and the boys try and make it happen on another system. I don't doubt their abilities for a second, but I thought they were keeping it a strictly sony project throughout the whole series, but being that we have a gamecube laying around and I had caught wind of this little side project, I had to give it a try. I am a MGS fanatic of sorts, played them all through and through, but there was always that question in the back of my mind....if they were to do one of them over, this would be it because the gameplay is obviously not quite up to par with 2, 3, or 4. Being that they carried over the controls and everything from SOL, I got used to this game within minutes, and all the memories of going through the shadow moses incident started to come back. The voiceovers are on par for the most part, but honestly I think they did a better job in the ps version, otherwise the rest of it received a well needed update. Cutscenes are longer, faces are now recogizable, visuals blend well, quite impressive for the gamecube really. All in all a very impressive remake.
A must have (My review is of the Gamecube-remake) ^ To me this is one of the greatest games of all time. So many times while playing the original on PS1 (a classic) i have kept thinking how awesome it would be to play the same game with the same story, but with up-to-date graphics, sound and gameplay. Here you have it. The best of two worlds if you like. Even the remake is getting old nowadays, but the difference in games(graphics, gameplay etc.) between 1998 and 2004 is much, much bigger than the difference between 2004 and 2009. Worth every dime (even today). Highly recommended.
PS: Things like this should be done much more often. Upgraded versions of your favorite games from the past. That would please millions of gaming-nostalgics around the world. Imagine a game like "Moonstone: A Hard Days Knight" for Amiga with todays graphics/gameplay etc., or any other for that matter. I wish:-)
Metal gear Rules ^ This game is awesome to watch and challenging to play. Take your time and do things right. Put yourself in a soldier's boots to beat this one fast.
