Very good. While I do agree with some of the reviewers on how not all of the album is solid, most of it is. With tracks like "Who Am I?". "Blind Tiger", and, on occasion, "Under The Gun", it almost feels like a trip-hoppyish-type sound, which I really enjoyed. If you dig the sort of Downbeat music that I've loved ever since I heard Massive Attack, I'd say this is a worthy buy. And while not all of the songs are "great" ( "Red Pill, Blue Pill") The rest of the album is very enjoyable, especially as a soundtrack!
a great electronic soundtrack If you are a fan of this movie or of the matrix genre itself, then you are most likely a fan of electronic music. This compilation is indeed great. The first few songs, like "Who am I" and "Blind Tiger" start out slow and seductive. Blind Tiger is one of my favorite tracks for it's infusion of techno and jazz. It's also the track that's playing for most of the "Trinity" story that's in the movie. I first heard a version of "Red pill, Blue pill" at a rave and when I found it on this cd I was very excited. This is a great techno compilation and a good companion to the Animatrix.
It's good, but..... I wouldn't pay almost 20 smackers for it--that's too much of a rip-off since so many tracks are missing (hell, my favorite short on the movie was "Beyond," the rest are just ok. Where's the "Beyond" music, hmmm?? Fortunately, unlike many on here who are ticked off about not getting "Masters of the Universe" from the short "A Kid's Story," I already owned the Juno Reactor Shango CD before I came to own the animatrix album, so I don't feel violated by record labels or whatever ;) WARNING: Don't read the next sentence if you bought this CD for almost 20 buckaroos from any major CD retailer/electronics store b/c it will make you very angry.... I actually found this CD as part of a combo pack with the DVD movie at a Dollar General store, mwhahahahaha!! and it was brand new, mawhahahahahaha!!! And I only paid $6 for both the DVD and the CD mwahahahahahahah, I'm queen of the world!!!! sorry, i'm just feeling rather money-savvy right now.
GREAT If you are into this type of thing then you will absolutely LOVE it.
Decent Matrix Tribute Animatrix - The Album opens very strongly with the scintillating, mellowing, "Who Am I?," "Big Wednesday," and "Blind Tiger." The electronic arrangements fit very well with the psychological mood of the world of the Matrix. Unfortunately, tracks four through twelve are not as strong. Tracks eleven and twelve include music and dialouge from the original film score: but it is just the same three or four lines by Neo and Morpheus repeated over and over. In Track eleven, "Red Pill, Blue Pill," the only spoken words are "take the red pill; take the blue pill" over and over, by an unknown voice (not Reeves or Fishburne) and some amateur mixing that sounds like a "do it yourself Party DJ Mixer Kit." If you are at a Rave, I suppose these last two tracks would be right up your alley.
