Amazon.com: Based on the manga by Rumiko Takahashi, the creator of Ranma 1/2 and Urusei Yatsura, the Inu-Yasha TV series (2000) has been eagerly awaited in the U.S. Kagome Higurashi, a normal 15-year-old girl, falls down a dry well--and finds herself in the feudal past, 50 years after her ancestress Kikyo imprisoned the half-human/half-demon Inu-Yasha. As the reincarnation of Kikyo, Kagome possesses a magic jewel that greatly increases the power of demons. (Inu-Yasha needs it to make himself all demon.) Kagome fetters Inu-Yasha with the help of her priestess-ancestor Kaede, and when the jewel is shattered Kagome and Inu-Yasha must ally to recapture the fragments. If a demon or evil human were to obtain a single shard, the consequences would be terrible. Inu-Yasha sometimes feels like cross between Ranma and Blue Seed, but Takashi once again blends interesting characters, comedy, and adventure into a winning story line that is entirely her own. (Unrated: Suitable for ages 13 and older: violence, grotesque imagery, brief nudity) --Charles Solomon
Ah, Inuyasha on DVD. What better way to spend a saturday? Okay, I'm here to tell you all about Inuyasha, AKA best Anime/Manga EVER! The Plot: When a modern day 9th grader named, Kagome falls into a well, she is transported back to ancient Japan. (Called Feudal Japan for you history buffs out there). When she is there she finds out she is the reincarnation of Kikyo, a priestess who wanted to protect the legendary Jewel of 4 souls (aka Shikon jewel, or Shikon No Tama)at any cost. Many years earlier, The half- dog demon Inuyasha stole the Jewel to become a full demon. The Jewel gives immense power to demons. Kikyo then shot a magic arrow at Inuyasha, putting him in suspeded animation. When Kagome frees Inuyasha to kill a demon to protect her, Inuyasha is released upon the world again. However, because of a set of magic prayer beads put on him by Kikyo's little sister (Now 50-60) He is bound to Kagome and must help her find the shattered shards of the Shikon Jewel in order to save the world. How is Inuyasha bound to Kagome? Sit boy! That's all i'll say. A basic run-down of the Americanized version of Inuyasha. Script: Allright, its been changed. And that is BAD. There is a dumb Wizard of oz line (Toto, I don't think we're in tokyo anymore). And Kagome calls Inuyasha a Peeping tom instead of an animal. It sounds small, but the funniness is way different. And Kaede is made to sound like an idiot with Ye this, and ye that, and all of ye come here etc.
Voices: Kagome: Not bad, but not what I was expectiing. A little too mature for a 9th grade girl.
Inuyasha:Perfect! The voice captures our favorite Half-demon anti-hero perfectly!
Kikyo: A very minor part as of now, but very good.
Kaede: Nice, but ruined by the dumb script.
Yura of the Demon hair: AWESOME! The sarcastic Shikon no tama stealing demon is so fun to listen to.
The Special Features: AWFUL! IT has some sketches, a cast list, and a textless opening and ending. (BTW the opening song, I want to change the world is great). It also has English and japanese promos. (The Japanese ones are so fast its funny).
All in all, Inuyasha is a great buy. So buy it now. Or else... SIT BOY!!!!!!
GET YOUR BONES OFF ME! Kagome is a normal everyday Japanese high school student who has to constantly listen to her grandpa going on about old legends and folklore. She basically lives in a shrine with her grandpa, mother and little brother, next to a sacred tree and a mysterious well. When she is dragged into that well by a humongous centipede demon, she finds herself back in the time of the warring states. The demon wants the "Shikon Jewel" from Kagome. There's no way she will be able to stand alone against this demon so she will have to free an even more powerful half demon to fight it. That half-demon's name is Inuyasha!
Rumiko Takahashi has a certain magic in her characters. To me she is like the Steven Spielberg of Japanese comics. She has a lot of popular appeal but in the end it's not because she caters to her fans, but because there is just something unique about her character designs, or maybe it's the warmth and passion she brings to her work. I just love her stuff. Inuyasha is by no means targeted at small children. There's nudity, blood, and genuine frights in this volume. It seems Inuyasha and every other demon that comes along wants the Shikon Jewel because it amplifies their power considerably. Actually, that's why Inuyasha was ensorcelled, because Kikyo, who everybody seems to think has been reincarnated as Kagome, had to stop him from abusing his power. It will be interesting to see how this relationship will play out between the two main characters. The animation is fluid and rarely cuts corners. The storyline is a direct adaptation from the manga. Very few extras include Japanese promotional videos, and art gallery.
I would also recommend the manga Mermaid Saga by the same author and also the manga version of Inuyasha. Two other anime that have the same theme are The Twelve Kingdoms and Escaflowne.
You MUST watch INUYASHA!!!! Yeah, so what if I'm a kid?! Well, anyways, if you're looking for a new anime to watch, Inuyasha is the one!! It has great characters, great ending and beginning songs, great adventures, and great everything!! Inuyasha has romance, action, adventure, conmedy, everything you need! But I suggest not being a kid because of some bad parts... Hehe... I learned the hard way. Well, the story makes you cry if you miss an episode(or at least I do) on adult swim.(aka cartoon network late at night) Every character brings you into their story so that you can know them as if they were real. The fist episodes aren't the best(hence my rating) but it'll make you understand the story better. Trust me, you'll be hooked. I got hooked on what I think was the worst episode... My friend always told me about inuyasha and it was driving me NUTS! So I decided to tape it. When I watched it, I fell in love. It was awesome! (she still calls it inuwasha, though) Well, a bit of a sneak peek now: Inuyasha is about a girl named Kagome Higurashi who accidently falls into a well which brings her 500 years in the past! ( i wish i could do that) Then, she meets Inuyasha, a half dog demon with fuzzy ears. Kagome finds out she is the reincarnation of a great priestess, Kikyo and must protect the Shikon No Tama( Jewel of the four souls) which can make anyone who gets their hands on it have immense power. Kagome brakes it, and Inuyasha isn't too happy...... Then, they meet Yura of the Demon Hair. It doesn't tell the true enemy until later on, and that's when more characters come along.(Shippo vol.3, Miroku, I think vol.7, Sango vol.10 or 9) Well, buy this DVD and become an inuyasha freak! I hope my review helps... And don't critisize me either. I'm a kid, yes, but I know my anime! ( watch fullmetal alchemist!!!!) sry, I had to do that... Well, happy buying! (and save up your money so you can get the next one) Bye!
The Adventure Begins Inuyasha - Down the Well, Vol. 1, contains the first three episodes of the anime series. This is a wonderful, scary but enchanting series also called "a feudal fairy tale." In the first disc, Kagome and Inuyasha do not like each other at all. He even threatens to kill her. The sensitive and tender relationship between them will develop in later episodes, but not here. Inuyasha is raw, and Kagome as well is a little self-centered.
Episode 1: "The Girl Who Overcame Time and the Boy Who Was Just Overcome"
Kagome's ordinary life as a 15 year-old Japanese schoolgirl is violently interrupted by a chance encounter with a horrible demon, which bursts out of an old, sealed well in her family temple's basement. The demon drags Kagome in, leaving her distraught little brother shouting after her.
At the other side of the well is feudal Japan, but Kagome does not yet realize that. Kagome temporarily halts the demon. In exploring, she finds a strange youth pinned to a tree. He is under some kind of spell. She frees him, and thus Inuyasha and Kagome have their first meeting.
In flashbacks, the characters of Kikyo and her sister Kaede are introduced. Kaede is now an old woman who has taken her sister's place protecting the village from demons.
Episode 2: "Seekers of the Sacred Jewel
Inuyasha wants to take the Sacred Jewel from Kagome, even if it means over her dead body. To protect Kagome, Kaede gives her a necklace made of teeth and wooden beads. Once around Inuyasha's neck, Kagome is able to subdue him with the words "SIT, BOY!!!!" From then on, Kagome can use this tactic whenever she needs to.
Now that the Sacred Jewel has been released from Kagome's body, demons come from everywhere seeking to steal it to increase their powers. A crow demon steals it. As he is flying away, Kagome's arrow hits the mark too well, and the jewel is shattered into a thousand pieces all over a wide area.
Episode 3: "Down the Rabbit Hole & Back Again"
Kaede tells Inuyasha that he and Kagome must learn to work together to recover the jewel shards. Neither of them is very happy about that idea. In a huff, Kagome goes back home through the well. Meanwhile, Kaede and Inuyasha are trying to cope with magical and lethal hair controlled by a beautiful but evil demon girl with the shortest skirt ever.
Inu-yasha - my veiws and information on this DVD/series Inu-yasha: Down the Well. It's hard to know where to start! Inu-yasha as a series is truly amazing, it never falls into the predictable pattern than most animes take on and there are dozens of mini adventures, each building a bridge to liking and understanding the main characters better. This DVD, the first volume has three episodes: The Girl who over came time, and the boy who was just overcome. Seekers of the Sacred Jewel Down the rabbit hole and back again. This DVD is a good taster for the humour and types of mini adventures you come across. I also think it introduces the characters in a nice pleasing manner. Not to much at once. We get to meet Kagome, and start to like her to begin with, get mixed feels for Inu-yasha and only a brush on the depths of Kaede. Like a lot of the DVD's, the last episode stops half way in there mini adventure. This is one DVD which you will be on the edge of your seat with. Of course, this type of anime is not for everyone. In about... *think* Hmm... the second DVD we get to see a bit of the romance, humour and fighting that makes Inu-yasha a purely enjoyable anime. Please don't take my word for it though. This series is one you will remember, dream about and find yourself quoting and replaying in your mind. As a final note, this DVD is region one. Fine for all of you in America, but for people like me in the UK or those in Australia, yuo need to get a multi region DVD player. You can pick these up pretty cheap. I got 'mine' at amazon for £34 thats about $40. With these you can watch most regions. So you americas can watch Hellsing and over region 2 only DVD's. Thanks for reading, I hope you do purhase and enjoy this DVD. Wait, I have another note, I like to rant :D. rated 13+ by candain home videos, there is over 200+ and 2 [or 3] Movies, for those who want a whole series, this one may not be for you, as currently only so many are releases and finally... *thinks* Inu-yasha has some great tunes, the starting tune Change the World, the last My will. The last theme tune changes to Fukai Mori somewhere in the twenties.
Oh, and lasty. Meh. I just felt like that. Heh. :p Happy purhasing!
