Amazon.com: In 1967 Glen Campbell broke through to become a household name following his hit version of Jimmy Webb's "By the Time I Get to Phoenix." With follow-up hits "I Wanna Live" and "Wichita Lineman" paving the way for his enormously successful CBS variety show The Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour, Campbell rode a trail of hit singles well into the 1970s. This hits collection reflects his wide-ranging repertoire and flair for mixing old and new. Though his spin on John Hartford's "Gentle on My Mind" barely broke the Top 30 in 1967, it gained immortality as the Goodtime Hour theme song. With the now-classic "Rhinestone Cowboy" and "Southern Nights," Campbell's ability to create chart-topping country singles that resonated with non-country fans was years ahead of its time. Tackling songs forever associated with others (the Everly Brothers' "Let It Be Me" and "All I Have to do Is Dream" and Conway Twitty's "It's Only Make Believe") can be risky, but Campbell's strong, passionate interpretations put them across. --Rich Kienzle
Always a GC fan I have always liked Glen Campbell's music, especially his smooth, calming voice. I just wish I had bought this CD before now and will be ordering more in the future.
Classic hits Hi, I'm Glen Campbell! This was his opening that i remember from his TV show back in the day. This CD covers his excellent career very well. EVERY song is familiar and takes me back to different times. The Jimmy Webb songs were the best and such a great variety of music here. From the wonderful "True Grit" soundtrack title, which starred John Wayne to all his top hits, this CD is 5 stars. I had forgotten all the great hits Glen had and this is one of my favorite CD's of hits from any artist. If you like Glen even as a casual fan, buy this CD. And as a footnote, his brand new CD of cover songs form current artists is fantastic. Glen's voice is as good as ever!
Great "Oldies" Really great having all of Glen's hits on one CD. Except for Amazon, some are hard to find. Thanks
Memories of my younger days...when music was real music Glen Campbell was so BIG years ago, and his music is ageless and voice is pure. Nearly every song on this CD I remember playing on the radio, or watching him sing them on tv. It's sad to see what alcohol did to his career, but I hear that he's finally beating his demons. I hope that is true, and that his voice has not suffered over the years. Would love to see him put out some new music.
But if not, will keep playing this fantastic CD and remembering the young man with such a future.
This is the Very Best of Glen If you ever were or are a Glen Campbell fan then this is the CD you want in your collection. This has all of his hits along with songs with Bobbie Gentry and those are unreplacable. Get this CD if ever liked one of Glen's songs. The rest are all great!!
