Description:
Michelle Yeoh (CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON, TOMORROW NEVER DIES), Anita Mui (Jet Li's THE ENFORCER, RUMBLE IN THE BRONX), and Maggie Cheung (SUPERCOP) form an unstoppable combination as three powerful martial arts experts -- each with her own secret superhero identity -- who band together to battle the ultimate evil! Their foe is a demented but powerful wizard who believes that if he kidnaps all the babies in China he can build a demonic ruling class and eventually dominate the world. With everything on the line, it's up to the Heroic Trio -- Shadow Fox, Mercy, and Invisible Woman -- to rise up and stop him! A big screen adventure that's like CHARLIE'S ANGELS meets THE TERMINATOR, you're sure to love all the hard-hitting fun in this action-packed martial arts fantasy!

Amazon.com essential video:
A Hong Kong combination of Batman and The Three Musketeers, The Heroic Trio is a winning mix of action, sci-fi, fantasy, and police caper starring three outstanding Hong Kong actresses. Former popular singer Anita Mui is Tung/Wonder Woman, a mysterious crime fighter who aids the police whenever needed. Michelle Yeoh is Ching/Invisible Woman, an unwilling disciple to an age-old Evil Master, and Maggie Cheung is Chat/Thief Catcher, a runaway enlisted by the Evil Master who is now a bounty hunter for hire. When baby boys are being stolen for a horrific plan, Tung assists in the investigation while Chat plans to make some bucks off of catching the culprit. The baby thief is none other than Ching, who is carrying out the kidnappings for the Evil Master with the aid of her lover's invention--an invisible robe. But the good in her wins out, and she joins forces with Tung and Chat. This is a superhero film, to be sure. Fantastic sets and impressive wire-strung fight choreography make The Heroic Trio extremely fun to watch. Wonder Woman enters the picture by running full-tilt atop power lines while Chat rides a motorcycle and wields a shotgun like the Terminator. The outlandish and complicated plot seems right at home here, heightened by the moody lighting and the combined screen presence of Mui, Yeoh, and Cheung. All three give fierce and touching performances in a hyperbolic and enjoyable film. --Shannon Gee

3 out of 5 stars"Is My Face Still Looking Good?"
Note: Chinese with English subtitles.

Synopsis: Join Shadow Fox (Anita Mui), Invisible Woman (Michelle Yeoh) and Mercy the Thief Catcher (Maggie Cheung) as they unite forces to do battle with an emissary of evil with supernatural powers dwelling in a Hades-like world created beneath the city. Newborn male children are disappearing into the shadowy Underworld below, nineteen at last count and the heroic trio is the only force that may be able to bring an end to the abductions and destroy the supernatural wizard who intends pick a new king from amongst the children and use the rest as demonic killers to do his bidding. Can three femme fatales succeed in their almost impossible mission? What do you think?

Critique: The '92 Hong Kong release `The Heroic Trio' is a mixed bag containing a combination of occasional comedic elements, cheesy melodrama and adequate martial arts sequences all used to counterbalance some surprising and unexpectedly harsh, even grotesque scenes involving the deaths of some of the young ones that will more than likely disturb some in the viewing audience. Fortunately you have the choice of bypassing these darker portions of the film by viewing the American release which has cut them out. However if you're one of those viewer like myself who likes to watch a film in its original language without the additional editing get the -Region 0- import and enjoy!

One more thing before I close, I'd like to answer the question posited in my title for this review. Yes Maggie (Mercy) your face is most definitely still looking good!

My Rating: -3 1/2 Stars-.

4 out of 5 starsLuscious Low-Brow Cheeziness and I loved every minute of it
what more can be said. Low-brow stuff...gotta love Maggie Cheung as the little pyro "Happy New Year Everybody!" as she blows up the sewers.

1 out of 5 starsHorrible movie.
There was nothing of note about this movie. I honestly don't see how anyone could watch this and feel satisfied that they saw a worthwhile fim. Avoid at all cost. I like the actressess involved, but the film was bad. very bad.

3 out of 5 starscomic book strikes again
Some fairly good martial arts action does not excuse a nonsensical plot and frivolous acting.

3 out of 5 starsMICHELLE YEOH IN A SPANDEX
That's all I needed to see to make this a classic movie. Some very good fight scenes, but you have to be pretty hard-core into these movies to really like this. Also some very weird fight scenes. The final fight I have never made it through to the end, not cause it was too sick, just because I did't like it. But I did like the whole movie up to that point. It is great to see Iron robe yim from OUATIC playing a REAL baddie.

The dubbing is a different story, this would have easily get a 4/5 if I could get my hands on the original language version. Seriously, this movie is like 86 minutes long, that is just a horribly done dvd, they remaster the picture to perfection, but can't give any type of other feature on this, how freaking hard is it to pu the original language on these.
