Amazon.com Product Description: Resident Evil, the game that is often credited with starting the survival-horror genre, is being reinvented for the GameCube. For those unfamiliar with the series, a mysterious corporation has secretly been performing ungodly biotech experiments in the sleepy little town of Raccoon City. When reports of gory attacks come in from nearby areas, two crack military squads are sent to investigate. Players take the role of either sharpshooter Chris Redfield or demolitions expert Jill Valentine to track down the source of the town's problems--specifically, something in a decaying mansion that's mutating animals into grotesque killers and turning humans into bloodthirsty zombies. Supplies and ammunition are scarce, so players have to know when to fight, when to run, and how to keep their wits about them. Players can't afford to waste their shots and expect their characters to survive.
The story is being retrofitted with motion-captured animation, next-generation graphics, real-time lighting and shadow effects, new areas, and newly rendered in-game video segments to create an even more cinematic experience. Also, a redesigned combat system lets players attack and defend themselves with a variety of items found in the environment.
remake Maybe I had the wrong idea going in, but I was expecting a whole lot more than what the game delivered. Yes, the graphics are drastically improved, the voice acting has been cleaned up and sounds MUCH better compared to the original PS1 and Sega Saturn versions, and the game did a fine job building atmosphere, which in turn gives off a LOT of spooky feelings for the player.
But I don't know, I just feel the game could have been even better. It's not really more FUN to play compared to Resident Evil 2 and 3, and I think that's my biggest problem- it's just not a very fun game to play compared to the other popular games in the series. I was expecting the fun factor to increase more than it did.
Plus, I KNOW it can be argued "this is how it's supposed to be" because this Remake is supposed to do everything the original did and improve upon it, but it's rather frustrating having enemies constantly attack you, even when you plan ahead and prepare for them. It gives off the feeling you're never good enough no matter how many times you attempt the same areas trying not to take a hit- you will get hit either way. Just a challenging game all around.
Still, not a bad game by any means.
Excelent This game is just amazing, I always had an idea that it was a great game, but you can only feel it by playing it, so atmospheric, that crazy mansion just make you nuts.
scary this resident evil game has to be the best one i ever played. i could play this over and over again. there is an secret mode you can play where all the zombies and bosses are invisible i really though that was a good challenge. also theres a special handgun you could get that has unlimited ammo. i believe ill always love this game.
A must have (My review is of the Gamecube-remake) To me this is one of the greatest games of all time. So many times while playing the original on PS1 (a classic) i have kept thinking how awesome it would be to play the same game with the same story, but with up-to-date graphics, sound and gameplay. Here you have it. The best of two worlds if you like. Even the remake is getting old nowadays, but the difference in games(graphics, gameplay etc.) between 1996 and 2002 is much, much bigger than the difference between 2002 and 2009. Worth every dime (even today). Highly recommended.
PS: Things like this should be done much more often. Upgraded versions of your favorite games from the past. That would please millions of gaming-nostalgics around the world. Imagine a game like "Moonstone: A Hard Days Knight" for Amiga with todays graphics/gameplay etc., or any other for that matter. I wish:-)
Great game - This remake beats the original! And I got it brand new! I just could not find this game anywhere. I had been trying to find it for so long. I was able to get it through Amazon. Not a used one! I got a brand new one.
A great deal for a Resident Evil game collector like me.
