Description: Dynamite screen team ( CBS Morning News ) Gregory Hines (The Cotton Club, White Nights) and Billy Crystal (City Slickers) star in the motion picture that asks the question, How come the bad guys always drive the good cars? The answer has them Running Scared in this lightning-paced comic thriller. Ray and Danny are the wild men of the Windy City's police force. The pair's unorthodox methods get results in a tough townuntil they come up against Julio Gonzales (Jimmy Smits, NYPD Blue ), a smooth-talking drug dealer who is bucking to become Chicago's first Spanish Godfather. Trying to nail Gonzales, they blow a delicate undercover operation and are sent on a forced vacation to Key Westwhere they discover the good life of warm weather and warmer women. The new locale makes them decide to retire but not before putting Gonzales behind bars first!
Amazon.com: This moody 1986 buddy picture and police drama represented a change of pace for both stars. Billy Crystal and Gregory Hines play two Chicago police detectives who, feeling gun-shy about the inherent danger of their jobs, contemplate retirement in Florida. They just can't shake the allure of their work, however, particularly when their pursuit of a notorious drug dealer (Jimmy Smits) turns personal and deadly. While there are more than enough light moments generated by the easy and convincing rapport between Crystal and Hines, director Peter Hyams (The Star Chamber, 2010) succeeds in straddling the two disparate moods to create a taut and engaging action picture. --Robert Lane
Great, cheap VHS buy. Hope there's more where this came from. What's the point of buying movies on DVD when they weren't made for digital display? This film relies on great comedic acting, and the VHS delivers.
The film...as if anyone reading this doesn't already know, a great '80s cop flick. Little overkill on the one liners, but so well delivered by Hines (RIP) and Crystal.
A great, fun movie.
Awesome chemistry It's a shame that Billy Crystal and Gregory Hines didn't get a chance to work together more. They have great timing and seemed to thoroughly enjoy making this movie. You can't help but laugh when you watch it.
A real gem! I saw this movie recently on the "TV Land" channel and decided to buy the DVD. I really loved this movie ! It's hilarious and has loads of laughs! Billy Crystal and Gregory Hines worked really well together -- they just clicked on screen. My favorite scene was when their characters were involved in a car chase on a commuter train track with Jimmy Smits's character! I wish they could have made a sequel before Gregory Hines passed away.
a lost jewel There are quilty pleasures{Road House} and those movies that are so bad that they become good{Show Girls} HOWEVER this not one of those. It is one of those jewels that doesn't show up much on tv and got lost in theaters. The teaming of Hines and Crystal is a once in life time thing and sorry to say it turned out to be just that. The comedy flows and is not forced. The leads make you like them and you belive that they are real cops. The chase on the El tracks is great and the building shoot out at the end is well done. Hines has a nice turn when he "arrests" another man's lover for his own. The montage at Key West is nice. But the sound track is 70's gold and realy moves the movie forward. This movie holds up well. It's really was a shame that the sequel was never made. Maybe that was a good thing because the sequel could never live up to the original. Look for this movie and enjoy!
Classic Movie It is a great movie and a classic. If you haven't seen it you should!
