Over The Hills And Far Away: the music of Sharpe This CD is well done. It aids well in developing a feeling for the times.
music of sharpe The music was very good but the words were a little difficult to understand at times. All in all I thought it was very good.
Fantastic Over The Hills is on twice, Sean Bean recites it, then a couple tracks later Tams sings it. The other songs are marvelous also.
Tuneful Great CD...tuneful and hummable...swell as background or as company for either the Sharpe videos or books or just in its own right. Spry, energetic, wistful and melancholic by turns...perfect for the ipod or in the car
Beautiful music... This collection of period music is truly a window into the past...and I see it as fitting tribute to the generations of anonymous English soldiers who fought for king and country.
Listen closely to the eloquent lyrics, with its themes of duty, longing for home, and military hardship...themes that sound anachronistic, but upon further thought, resonate universally--esp. for today's military families. And the songs are effectively delivered in John Tams' soothing, seasoned voice.
Some of the reviews here complain of song "over-instrumentalization", which made me apprehensive about buying this CD. Now that I've heard it, I find both song versions of "Far and Away" to be beautiful...in their own ways.
