Great party item I bought this party set for my 12 year old's party. If you're uncomfortable with mild adult themes, don't buy it. But, it worked well for us and the girls had a blast. We decorated in an Italian theme and everyone dressed the part. We served sparkling grape juice in wine glasses and that was a great touch. The CD tells you exactly what to do and it was very easy to pull off.
Our Fourth Mystery Pasta was our 4th mystery. As others have said, it is a nice Mystery for decorations and costumes. I was able to use decorations from around the house, including a memorial to Pepi Roni, and everyone was able to make their costumes from what they had in their closets. This is a great plus.
Dinner was a bit excessive. I cooked the entire thing myself. I was exhausted, but luckily I prepared most of the it the day before. The Ziti, Boboli, Garlic dip, and Mocha Cake were the best. I would just stick to those to make it simple. You don't want to end up exhausted!
No one guessed the murderer, but we still had a great time. Everyone enjoyed themselves, even the non-suspects. We had played other games with non-suspects before, so we knew what to expect. Even though, I think I will leave those roles out in the future.
This is an easy mystery to throw together and probably a good one for beginners. It is 100% scripted, you just have to change "you" to "I" which some people seem to have a lot of trouble with! Making your own accents was a lot of fun! "Rocco" sounded like the Godfather. For music I had Sinatra. Overall it was a great time, but these mysteries only do so much. The rest is up to your guests.
Murder Mystery Party - Pasta, Passion & Pistols We invited six suspects for a New Year's Eve party and our guests had a great time. The costumes for each character were easy and fun. Although the kit includes a menu, we decided to keep it really simple and asked each guest to bring something (appetizer, salad and dessert). We provided the main course and beverages. Our guests enjoyed their roles and played them to the hilt. This was our third murder mystery party game and we will definitely do another.
Great Game for a Fun Evening I really enjoyed this game. I was surprised at some of the semi-racy twists it took so please keep in mind that it is definitely a game for adult participants.
I ordered the game 1 week before I needed it and it arrive on time. But, because of the crunch for time, we didn't use the supplied menu that comes with the game. Still a great night.
We had only 6 players - I wouldn't have more even though there are 2 "extra" parts. It wouldn't be as fun for those people... unless they wouldn't really be the type to get far into charaget but would still enjoy the evening. The "extra" parts can be reserved for people who are just that: reserved.
Be ready to get into character and have a good time.
Okay if you don't take it too seriously This was our first attempt at hosting a murder mystery and it was fun. It mostly reads like a play with each person having their parts. There can be some improvisation if your guests are so inclined (and intoxicated) but mostly the players just wait for their turn to accuse another player and it pretty much follows that form.
I was hoping for a bit more interaction between the characters. We set up in the living room with the coffee tables out of the way so everyone could interact, but I don't think there was ever cause for anyone to stand up, let alone act.
We also got tied up trying to figure out the order in which we're supposed to speak. We had eight people including my wife and I, and we thought that by playing the "extra" players, we could sort of direct the evening. If we do another mystery by this company, we will not be involved in the game, but rather read through the whole kit ahead of time and attempt to direct things a bit more smoothly.
