What white supremacists need to hear This is what white supremacists need to hear! Skillfully composed and the two best tracks are Panther Power and The Devil Made Me Do It.
This album in one word: CLASSIC! Paris is easily the most underrated MC out of the west coast. He can rap his a** off, his production is superb and he talks about things of substance. He can bring it to you on an Mc level with a track like Scarface Groove. He shows his frustation with the radio playlist on This Is A Test. He drops political and social gems on tracks like Panther Power, Ebony, Brutal(speaks on police brutality), The Devil Made Me Do It, Brutal(dope but he kind of sounds like LL on the second half of this song), The Hate That Hate Made, Escape From Babylon and Wretched. The bonus track mixes are a nice touch. DJ Mad Mike flexes his turntable prowess on I Call Him Mad. Paris gives it to you on a jazz tip on Mellow Madness. As for filler there is none. Bottom Line: Paris is one of the most underrated and most lyrically prolific emcee of all time and this album is proof of that! He doesnt waste time trying to be a studio gangster instead he is more focused on spreading knowledge through the music and that I can respect. If you like Dead Prez, Public Enemy, The Coup, The old Ice Cube etc then you're going to love Paris because he is right up their alley. Standout Tracks: SCARFACE GROOVE, PANTHER POWER, BREAK THE GRIP OF SHAME, WARNING, BRUTAL, THE DEVIL MADE ME DO IT, THE HATE THAT HATE MADE, I CALL HIM MAD, ESCAPE FROM BABYLON and WRETCHED.
Hip-Hops best Unknown Secret Paris is one of the many hip-hip artist from the early 1990's that didnt get alot of airplay, and mainly sold records on word of mouth. Let me tell you that even though Paris's other releases aren't as strong as this, "The Devil Made me Do It" has flavor that most hip-hop has lost today, and that is dealing with racial tensions, political issues, and Black History (ex..Black Panthers) The beats are also mind blowing, and this album is very Hard for the time that it was released. Even though the album is somewhat dated, it still is a treasure, and I hope people that are infactuated with todays hip-hop could take a few steps back and pick up an album of such importance. This CD belongs in EVERYONES collection. Its that good! (i only gave if 4 stars because even though it is a classic, there are some poor filler tunes here) ENJOY
Quite possibly misinformation I have yet to review this album, but wanted to comment on R.Williams review of this album. Williams printed a statement that Oscar "Paris" Jackson is dead. I do not beleive rumours without credible evidence so I did some internet research. From a national news report I read that in 11/05 a man named Taurus Jackson who is a promotions director for the west coast rap group 'Tha Coup' was shot and killed during an apparent home invasion robbery. The story went on to say that many others had confused Mr.Jackson with Paris. Paris was reached and is alive and well, or so I read. Williams review, although not fabricated, goes to prove that this site should be used for album reviews only and not a gossip column. I do plan to review this album after I receive it. As for R.Williams, perhaps he/she should print a retraction.
Now a Must Have Just read this morning that Paris was shot and killed. Came here to check out the artist, because I'd never heard of him. What a shame; this is a must have for the collection.
