Billy Chong in one of his best movies being taught by Simon Yuen and choreographed by the Yuen brothers If you have not heard fo Billy Chong you really missed out on something special. I recommend getting just about all of his movies. They are never great but they never dissapoint either. He was kind of a mix between Jackie Chan and Donnie Yen. Great fist forms and kicks and very good acrobatics. This movie is a ripoff of 'Snake in Eagle's Shadow' and 'Drunken Master'. Chong is somewhat of a clone who has to fill some big shoes with Simon Yeun being his master and all but he shows he is one of the best kung fu actors by far.
Billy is a young man who wants to learn kung fu very badly. After pretending he is a master and trying to get a job as a teacher at a kung fu school, he ends up being the cleaning boy. When he meets Simon Yuen who plays the school's cook, it doesn't take long before he starts learning kung fu. Simon Yuen knew the man who killed Billy's dad and decides to help him take revenge by teaching him. Now I know you are saying you have seen this movie before or at least one similiar too it and it doesn't stop with the training sequences but Chong actually looks better than Jackie Chan and makes the training scenes very good even though it seems like he is just copying Jackie.
I would compare this to a very similar movie with Chong called 'Super Power'. Not as good overall but the final fight is way better. Great work from the Yuen's and Billy Chong.
The DVD has very watchable picture quality and is presented in a 16:9 format which isn't fully widescreened but is a heck of a lot better than full screen.
Billy Chong the most un-appreciated kung fu main man Billy Chong again is fantastic in an action packed comedy filled film. A young man finds his father dead, and only has the name of the man who did it, but no idea who he is or how he's gonna find him. Little does he know he's the one being stalked. With the help from a beggar cook he is taught the needed skills to atleast attempt to get revenge. Again Billy Chong is awsome, and everyone should get his movies, no matter.
Pretty Good This film has some similarities to Jackie Chan's Snake In The Eagle's Shadow. This film is also probably the best of the early Jackie Chan imitations. It shares the same type of martial arts comedy as well as training sequences found in many of Jackie Chan's films. Even Simon Yuen, from Jackie Chan's Snake In The Eagle's Shadow, is in it and plays Billy Chong's master. Billy Chong's other memorable film is "Superpower". In that one, he learns the "Nature Fist" style. The quality of the DVD is surprisingly good, far superior to the VHS video version I have. The only gripe I have is that there is no widescreen choice.
Lightning fast kung fu action. Great Teacher/Student flick. Billy Chong kicks (...) in this one. In one scence he is so fast that his opponents end up hitting each other several times. Very entertaining. I highly recommend this one.
Surprisingly cool flick! Rented this one because I love any old Yuen brothers movie. When I watched it I was NOT disappointed. The star's mastery of eagle claw is extremely impressive. Buy this one!
