You have to speak German to get full value of these tapes. I was really looking forward to getting this video, as the advertisig for it promised to deleiver an in-depth view of Hitler in his own words, and in the context of his own times.
Unfortunately, substantial portions of this video are taken from archival footage of Hitler making lengthy speeches in German, without subtitles. If subtitled translations were included this would easily have been a "4" or "5" star video series. But without them (and not being fluent in German) all that was left to see was a crazed madman gesticulating and using vocal inflections. The result is that one draws the exact opposite conclusion to the one advertised, namely that Hitler was indeed just a 2 dimensional cartoon character.
That is certainly not the proper hisorical lesson to draw, so the video series fails, in my opinon.
Beyond the cartoon character... This is a stunning retrospective of Hitler, his origins, and his methods of seducing the German people. The video demonstrates that above all, Hitler was a political genius, a master showman, and a madman. Most people shrug off Hitler as an evil, one-dimensional cartoon character that could never dupe today's "sophisticated" masses. This documentary shows this to be a dangerous assumption.

Best movie ever I have never seen more interesting documentary/home movie in my entire life!
