Amazon.com: For fans and newcomers, this boxed set holds a great collection, including all four great movies. The first in the series, Batman (1989), and arguably the best of the four movies, exudes the moodiness of the Dark Knight's character. Tim Burton's direction and Michael Keaton's rendition of Batman are an electrifying combo. Together they capture the sinister atmosphere of Gotham City and Batman's darkness. Jack Nicholson as the fiendish Joker and Kim Basinger as the resourceful and gorgeous Vicki Vale lend their charm. Three years later, in 1992, Burton and Keaton reunited for Batman Returns. This time our pointy-eared hero has to combat two villains: Danny DeVito as the disturbed and freaky Penguin and Michelle Pfeiffer as Catwoman. In Batman Forever (1995), Joel Schumacher gave his direction to the story with Val Kilmer under the cape. Kilmer keeps the moodiness but adds a little panache to his rendition. His archenemies this time are the Riddler (Jim Carrey) and Two-Face (Tommy Lee Jones). Luckily, he enlists the help of the Boy Wonder, Robin (Chris O'Donnell). The final movie in the series, Batman & Robin, is great eye candy, and this time Schumacher returns with George Clooney as the leading man and Chris O'Donnell again as Robin. Together Batman and Robin battle the icy Mr. Freeze (Arnold Schwarzenegger), with a little help from Batgirl (Alicia Silverstone). Delve into the Gotham City world with the Dark Knight to protect you, and don't forget to make lots of popcorn for this Batman marathon. --Samantha Allen Storey
A Quick Look A quick look at the movies in this series:
Batman (*****): A great transition to the big screen for the caped crusader. Michael Keaton plays a great "Bat", while Jack Nicholson sets the standard for all Joker portrayals (until Heath Ledger, of course). Tim Burton's vision of Batman is very dark and gothic, yet quite effective in portraying at least some of the tortured soul that gives rise to Batman.
Batman Returns (****): Very much like the first film in terms of its dark, Burton-like feel. More focus on Batman's relationship with his villains (Catwoman and Penguin).
Batman Forever (***): Joel Schumacher takes the reigns of the franchise and moves it more in an action-adventure direction. The whole premise of the Batman concept (as a vigilante) suffers mightily as a result, but the film is still quite watchable due to the great acting of Jim Carrey (Riddler) and Tommy Lee Jones (Two-Face).
Batman and Robin (*): A complete farce from the get-go. Batman and Robin might as well be Transformers for the amount of gadgets and suits they possess, and the entire film speeds along with no gripping plot. One would almost think that this film was made with "camp" in mind, but even fails at that!
Question Good day could anyone say to me please if the collection of batman has subtitles in Spanish. Thank you very much by its answers..
It's all good except... Why add Batman & Robin?! I've been a Bat freak my whole life and adding that crappy movie just taints all the other ones! They should make a box set without that one included! Then it'd be perfect!
Don't Bother... unless you love campy "films" These films are lousy. Namely because A) They don't have the same actor playing batman, B) the villians might as well have been that stupid clown from spawn, they all sucked C)Who honestly thought any of these people took the Batman legacy with an ounce of seriousness?
Pathetic!
The cartoon series was more serious than these "films" were.
You will go Batty for Batman! What a fabulous collection of Batman movies waiting for you! Micheal Keaton, Val Kilmer and George Clooney did a superb job as the Dark Knight fighting off the fabulous villains that we know and love (or hate)! I enjoyed watching these DVDs. They are exciting in every sense of the word! I know you will too!!
