Amazon.com: Simon Kieth's popular comic book was adapted for television in this multipart animated series first broadcast on MTV. A little confusing, the series--which concerns a kind of hulking superhero and his attachment to a female therapist and her teenage client--is actually mesmerizing and surprisingly touching. The writing is unusually sophisticated, and Kieth's ability to create complex female characters and provide their incisive dialogue should be the envy of any male scribe. Parallel action set in a so-called outback--an escape from reality--is wild and evocative of childhood fantasies. This is a strangely beautiful show all around. --Tom Keogh
love max ^ i love the max awsome show wish there were more episodes great picture on time servis.
Worn, but wonderful ^ As a VHS, I expected it to be somewhat worn, especially for how old this series is. The box was of course a little worse for wear, and you can tell the tape has been played multiple times. What matters most is how it plays, and it's all I hoped for! I still haven't watched the whole thing, so I hope I'm not jinxing myself, but so far so good!!! :)
A trippy movie ^ I watched this movie after not having seen it since the mid nineties. I have to tell you this, it was extremely imaginative and well written.
I would highly recommend anything written by this person. As far as the quality of the product I received, the video was excellent. This tape probably sat in a video store for the majority of its life unwatched which was my luck and a loss to anybody who didn't rent it.
One of animation's finest in history! ^ Let me start off like every other review for this truly fantastic series by saying YES THERE MUST BE A DVD RELEASE FOR "THE MAXX" AND I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY THERE IS NOT ONE NOW! With that out of the way let me say this is really one of the greatest animated series ever created in history. A very intelligent show brimming with perfected writing and animation. The dialouge is extremly dramatic, heavy, and at times humorous (which is nice because it makes it seem a little less heavy). IT IS THE LAST GREAT SERIES TO HAVE EVER AIRED ON MTV AND ANYONE WHO SAYS DIFFERENT HAS NOT SEEN THIS SHOW. At this point I would say "go find a copy and pick it up right now!" but as all of you know there is no exsisting copy that is currently being manufactured that is not a bootlegg. Hopefully with the release of "The State" and an announced release of "Daria" (in "The State" dvd previews) in 2010, we may finally see a MUCH NEEDED DVD release of "The MAXX".
A+ performance ^ A superb piece of animation magic. This sorid tale sets a solid foundation and when coupled with quality graphic cartooning the result is sublime. I knew The Maxx had this covered when it was first released, and yet coming back to it after all these years has not diluted any of it's original potency. In fact it has only gotten better.
