Description:
Jim Moore is a tough-as-nails Drill Instructor with a chip on his shoulder: Pvt. Owens, who isn't quite up to snuff. Sgt. Moore is convinced that "there's a man underneath that baby powder" and sets out to force the private to rise to the occasion. Instead, he drives Owens to bail out altogether. Things only get worse when the Captain steps in and gives Moore three days to make the a Marine out of the petrified private.

4 out of 5 starsGood service
I was happy with my service from this retailer. Shipping was slow, but video was in great condition. This is a hard to find item, so I was impressed that it was in such good condition.

5 out of 5 starsGreat entertainment and realism too :)
The first time I saw the D.I. movie was back in the summer of 1987 when I was going through Marine Corps boot camp on Parris Island, South Carolina. The heat and sand fleas are legendary in that area as any recruit will tell you. I saw the movie more recently and the basic premise is just as I remembered it: even the most screwed up recruit can make it through boot camp if they put their mind to it.

I suspect the movie will have the greatest appeal to those who had the privilege of going through Marine Corps boot camp, especially Parris Island. I'm sure those who enjoy boot camp scenes like those in the Full Metal Jacket movie will also appreciate the film. The D.I. movie does a fairly realistic job of portraying the general atmosphere of Marine Corps boot camp and it might be a good wake up call for those who are about to enjoy the experience :)

5 out of 5 starsThe Time Has Come For A DVD Release!!!
This is not a review of "The D.I.," because everybody already knows it's a classic and a must-see for everyone, military or not. Instead, this is a plea to the movie studio who owns the rights to "The D.I."

I know some studio, or somebody, has the rights to this movie. I can get a bootleg version, probably copied from Turner Classic Movies or AMC, but I want an official, digitally remastered version of this timeless classic. Why won't the studios wake up??? They could easily sell a million copies of this movie the minute it's released. It's a no-brainer.
Does anyone know who owns the rights to this film? Is there a write-in campaign somewhere that allows us to voice to the studio that we want this great film on DVD???
Have the rest of you noticed that the bulk of recent DVD releases are television shows and reissued movies that have previously been released? What is going on? There are so many wonderful older movies from the forties, fifties, sixties and seventies that NEED to be released on DVD, and the studios give us TV shows.

Where's "Rolling Thunder?" "Tell Them Willie Boy Is Here?" "Abandon Ship?" "Death Of A Gunfighter?" "Heroes of Telemark?" "Night of The Juggler?"

Movie studios, are you listening?

4 out of 5 starsHOORAH!
HOKEY STORY LINE BUT MARINES WILL WAX NOSTALGIC AT THE ACCURATE PORTRAYAL OF THE TRAINING AND DISCIPLINE PROVIDED AT PARRIS ISLAND. I SPENT MY TIME THERE FROM 10/62 - 2/63. IT SEEMS LIKE YESTERDAY. I BOUGHT THIS USED THROUGH A RESELLER ON AMAZON AND THE SERVICE WAS EXCELLENT AND THE CONDITION WAS AS DESCRIBED.

5 out of 5 starsThe D.I.
The D.I. is a classic. I have it recorded on VHS, but would love to have it on DVD. Why it is not available yet is anyone's guess. This is my favorite of all of the basic training movies. "Was your sandflea a male or female?" "Keep looking!" Fantastic!
