Product Description: Over the years, Jimmy Buffett’s yearly concert tours have evolved into beach-themed extravaganzas. That’s where this comprehensive handbook to all the great goings-on comes in. It’s got essential Parrothead information, from details about Buffett’s music to background on the band to stories behind some of his famous songs.
Unauthorized for a reason This is definitely not the first unauthorized book about Bubba, but unlike the Steve Eng book that really seemed to irritate Jimmy, this one wouldn't even get on his radar. Does anyone really need a book telling you how to attend a tailgate party? I don't always agree with the way Buffett attempts to capitalize on his name in selling everything from burgers to glassware to mousepads, this is really unnecessary. Save your money for drinks before the show. And don't sing along loudly when you are at the show. Phans are trying to hear Jimmy, not you.
Good Concert Prep Manual If you haven't attended a Jimmy Buffett concert, this book gives you the background to make your first one memorable. If you have, it is a pleasant reminder of why you go.
Great Book! I really like this book -- in fact, I've been hoping someone would write a book like this for years. It's a great portable handbook to Jimmy Buffett and the Buffett concert scene. I'm definitely not a concert Virgin, but I still found some great ideas for our next outing, with some cool information about the band and the songs. The book is a good read and offers a nice view into our little world of Buffett "enthusiasts." (It also has a cool look and design -- but I'm a sucker for Key West colors!
Good for the newbie This book is said to be a great parrothead guide for both seasoned parrothead veterans and newcomers alike. I would have to disagree. I purchased this as a birthday gift for one of my parrothead friends. Before wrapping and giving the gift of course, me being a die hard parrothead as well, I gave the book a quick preview first. There is nothing new in this book that a seasoned parrothead doesn't already know. For example...what to wear to a concert, tailgaiting rituals, drinks, Jimmy's bio, famous songs, books written, history, etc. The only info in here that I found interesting were some snippetts about when and how some of the songs came about.
So if you are new to the parrothead scene and are about to embark on your first show I would reccommend this book highly. If however you have been down this road before, even if only once or twice, the book will not quench your thirst.
