Product Description:
Charles Pierce has reached a dead end. He's got a good job and his family loves him, but he wanders through life as if he were barely there. On a business road trip, his car breaks down, stranding him in a small town in rural Virginia. While at first he greets his circumstances with irritation, Charles slowly begins to realize that this accident may be the luckiest thing that ever happened to him. His disappearance may just be his chance at a new life, and the down-to-earth waitress from the local diner might just be his second opportunity for love. That is, if the past doesn't catch up with him first.

I enjoyed this grahic novel it left me with the desire to know more about the main character and what happens to him next.

4 out of 5 starsPretty decent little indy film wrapped up in a graphic novel ^
Like to give a lot of the oni books a chance. Feel they really offer a fine alternative to the spandex, big breasted, "superhero A will never die because we make too much money off of him" type books. Last Exit is another that follows right in line.

I think its an interesting story and one that many people, at various times in their life, actually contemplate. Thinks aren't working out the way I want so I wonder what happens if I just never go back. Thats what happens here. Interesting little exploration into that idea. Really enjoyed the detective scene.

Artwise, I really feel that Mitten does a great job of getting in there and then getting out of the way. Nothing crazy. Moves the reader through the story showing them what they need to see and doesn't overdo it. I have heard a couple reviews that thought some of the artwork was a little stiff. I thought that for this type of story it worked perfectly. Not gonna have Michael Bay direct Chasing Amy are ya? You pick your artist based on their compatability with the story/characters/idea and I think Mitten was a good selection for this book. Plus, since this book has come out, he has done various other works for Oni and is now showing some great promise on Wasteland. Really looking forward to that one.

cheers

1 out of 5 starsDrive on to the next exit.. ^
There's a huge problem with this book in two parts- story and art. What is up with Oni's graphic novels. All that I've checked out seem rushed to production or uneven. Either the art's good and the story's flat or both. Toll sports an interesting Twilight Zone type concept but leaves out some key scene or two. I get the feeling the writer is either lazy or can't figure out structure and plot. While I'm a fan of primitive cartoonists like Jeffrey Brown and Porcellino- this art falls flat. The dude can't draw or pull off this linear coloring book style. Yikes!
