A continuation of a great story I unfortunately waited a couple years to pick up 3 and 4 after reading 1 and 2, so I was left hanging for quite some time. A great continuation of the story. It picks up a while after 2, and tries to answer some of the questions you feel after 2. Some new denizens of the Outback are shown and our old friend Mr. Gone is back.
To the m4xx0rz A comic I remembered from when I was a kid. Never had a chance to read more than a few issues, but the art, the style, the tone, all of it stuck with me and left a lasting memory of something supremely weird that I just couldn't completely understand.
15 or so years later I'm buying the TPB's on amazon, and finding out that it was so much stranger and surreal than my adolescent memories recalled.
The story is a twisting, floating, free-form fever dream that somehow coalesces into something solid and visceral.
The third volume ties up much of the original story arc, answers many of the questions about the Maxx, and introduces you to the next major arc.
A really enjoyable series, every page has something fresh, unique, and original, and you'll find yourself starting to love the extremely dysfunctional cast of characters and waiting for the next installment of the Outback weirdness.
MAXXIMUM ART The Maxx is the most popular work of creator/writer/artist Sam Kieth. Maxx is a superhero who exists in the "real" world as a bum who lives on social worker Julie Winter's couch, but in the trippy "outback" world, Maxx is a superhero who defends Julie Winters against Mr.Gone and the nasty Isz's. Little does he know that Mr.Gone has actually invaded the "real" world and is attacking Julie Winters there! The Maxx is ultimately a philosophical book that will make you question the reality of your surroundings. Sam Kieth was one of the early Image Comics creators, and is known for his amazing artistic ability. A must read for any comics fan both for the artwork and the story...
