Product Description: The Complete Land that Time Forgot: All Three Classic Adventures from the Prehistoric World that Lives Today-The Land that Time Forgot; The People that Time Forgot & Out of Time's Abyss Before Jurassic Park there was The Land that Time Forgot In 1916 the great World War is raging on land and on the world's oceans. On the high seas a ship falls victim to a marauding German U-boat. The vagaries of fate decree that soon the tables will be turned on the aggressors, and the survivors will take control. This story of war becomes something far more bizarre as the search for land and fresh water draws the polyglot crew into a subterranean channel which leads to an exotic, unknown world. When an enormous, amphibian reptile-of a type only known from distant prehistory-appears in living form and attacks, devouring a man in the process, the survivors realise that this is the start of a high adventure beyond anything they could have imagined. This Leonaur edition contains all three of Edgar Rice Burroughs' The Land that Time Forgot novels and is guaranteed to deliver all the thrills and spills that Burroughs' fans expect.
Wonderful Book The stories contained in this book are from the early days of science fiction/fantasy. The are delightful and entertaining to read. I particularly noticed the use of the racial descriptions from that time frame in the description of the humans encounterd. And the obvious heavey influence of Darwin and The Origin of Species on the writer. I very enjoyable "G" rated book, if a little dated.
Leonaur Ltd. is publishing the definitive Edgar Rice Burroughs 21st century editions. Leonaur Ltd. is publishing the definitive Edgar Rice Burroughs 21st century editions. These usually contain 2 books of the different ERB major series in order - thus far John Carter, Pellucidar, and Carson of Venus. In the future, possibly Tarzan! These books are handsome and my rating is mainly based on this - the ERB fan knows best about the rest of it. The 3 novels is a small series of Burroughs set during World War I, where the survivors of a submarine attack singing and some of the submariners become stranded in an isolated island which time forgot. Dinosaurs, primitive men, and all the rest... . Much better than what it sounds, much better than the 2 movies, and preceding many other books where modern man meet a pre-civilization environment. Of famous such works, only Conan Doyle's Lost World adventures precede this - but I am no expert on this branch of fantastic literature!
