2 out of 5 starsTry some other Ninja Turtles book
I have the same issue with this one as I did the second TPB. This TPB is mainly meant for kids, but it is too simplistic and unintellectual, so I wouldn't let my kids read it. The artwork resembles the new cartoon that is on Fox Kids, but I didn't like the artwork either since it is drawn in that japanese anime style of the new cartoon. I'm a fan of the older comic books and artwork. The story is just too simplistic and boring, and seems to be all over the place. The characteristics and personalities of the turtles seem to be taken to the extreme. Michaelangelo is supposed to be a party dude, but he comes off as a total idiot in this book. Same applies to the other characters. I expected more of an interesting and intellectual read. Just because the material is about ninja turtles doesn't mean you have to dumb it down. The artwork also seems to be too brightened or faded even though the cover has nice dark colors. The colors aren't dark and deep like they should be. However, this book does collect all of the second set of comic books, #1 to #5.

3 out of 5 starsFor the more experienced Turtle Fan
This TPB revists when the Turtles first meet April Oniel when she is being hunted by Baxter Stockman's Mousers and if you don't know the story this is not the book for you. A lot of what happens here relies on you knowing what occurs as the comic leaves a lot of scenes out. For example: You don't see the turtles lair attacked at the begining and nor do you see them escape from Baxter's lab after being trapped in there by Baxter.

All in all it felt more like they were trying to get Baxter and April's story across. While this is a good idea to give us something a little different it just didn't translate into a good story. Too many holes and not enough turtles does not make a great TMNT comic.

On the upside was the art. Its always nice to see the turtles in colour and although the style was quirky IMHO it suited the Turtles world.

If your a hardcore fan you may like this but if you are new to the turtles I highly recommend you try something else. There is also a short strip about Casey Jones aswell.
