Life is a circle, and what goes around, comes around. Just ask a trio of unforgettable women in Marian Keyes's enchanting new novel ...
Energetic, ambitious, and sexy, literary agent Jojo Harvey combines Jessica Rabbit's body with a mind like a steel trap. As if watching her back while on the corporate ladder and making million-dollar deals wasn't difficult enough, Jojo's having a relationship with her boss. Her married boss.
Tall, slender, and blond, bestselling author Lily Wright, one of Jojo's clients, worries about bad karma and the second novel she can't seem to write but must deliver -- she's already spent the advance. Anton, the Love of Her Life, persuaded her to buy their dream house.
Events organizer extraordinaire Gemma Hogan was best friends with Lily -- until the willowy blonde stole Anton, a.k.a. the Love of Her Life. Juggling the demands of her newly separated (and desperately needy) mom, Gemma's social life is flatlining -- a mortifying situation that makes for hilarious e-mails to a friend. Tales so funny, they come to the attention of top literary agent Jojo Harvey, who takes Gemma on as a client ...
Written in the charming and chatty voice that has become Marian Keyes's signature style, this hilarious and heartwarming new novel proves there are three sides to every story ... especially in the world of publishing!
A Wonderful Story about the World of Writing Stories! This novel centered on to the lives of three women. Emma, an events planner that finds out that her father has left her mother and taken up with his personal assistant. Lily, a former friend of Emma's, who's a new writer with a book published but has sullied her friendship with Emma by falling in love with and making Emma's former boyfriend, Anton, her own and Jo-Jo, a literary critic who signed Lily to her book deal and is having an affair with her married boss.
This was my first Keyes novel since reading her four "Walsh sisters" series and it was strange at first to hear her "voice" speaking on something other than those memorable characters, but before long, I was drawn into these characters. This was a well-told story full of details and it touched on many human frailties and I enjoyed hearing about each character's perspective.
I really enjoyed the way that Keyes made each story relate to the other ones in such a clever way. She unites them but at the same time kept their individual stories fresh and reading the book from three different perspectives was fun, as you were constantly fed more of each story and wondering what would happen next.
This is a long novel, but it wasn't cumbersome - you can really appreciate the way that Keyes gives it all to each character and does a fantastic job of relating their stories. She also keeps you guessing as to the final outcome of each character and that spurs you on to read and want even more. This was a satisfying read and has made me an even bigger fan of Marian Keyes.
regarding page 562 Four stars for a great read but no stars for the line on page 562...."Like taking flying lessons from Osama Bin Laden"
I love this book but I must pass some disappointment at this bad attempt at a joke. No matter how much time passes or on what continent you live, this is never funny. There will never be a time or a place to make jokes about 9/11.
My Favorite Keyes Book I've read most of Marian Keyes' books, and while I've enjoyed most of them, this one stands out as one of my favorites.
The interconnected story of three thirty-something women in Great Britain as they search for love, fulfillment, and successful careers, was spot-on in so many aspects. Yes, there were enough happy endings to go around, and yes, this could be called "chick lit," but it was far from cookie-cutter. Jojo, Lily and Gemma were all sympathetic characters in their own way, and I found myself rooting for all of them, even as their successes seemed to be mutually exclusive.
Lots of laughs and clever writing, "The Other Side of the Story" will keep you up at night as you read page after page, just to see how it all turns out.
Pulled me in and made me read! At first, I had to put the book down and wait a while to read it. I felt like at first it was slow but then about 200 pages in I couldn't put the book down. I loved it. I am a new reader of her books and I have all of them now and I can't wait to read them all. Up next Rachel's Holiday!
Very quirky Marian Keye's has a very chatty writing style. You feel as if she's having a casual conversation with you. This book, got my attention from the very first sentence, its all about the irony's of life, and the ups and downs of the world.
Three ladies whose lives are intertwined, you can never pick who's your favourite, the man stealer who can't forgive herself. The fanciful Gemma who can't get over her ex, or busty Jojo that you can't help wishing you looked a little bit like.
