Good Book If you want to loose some pounds by doing nothing more than making better choices while still enjoying your favorite foods then this book is for you.
A Scary Thought After reading this book you certainly will think different about what you eat. Or what you don't eat.....
Buy this book. This book is not for everyone, but this book was for me. I find myself taking this book to the grocery store with me and using it regularly. I love the concept of eating what you want and making better food choices. Several other reviewers did such a great job of posting excerpts and ideas from the book that I bought it. A real time saver!
Eat this/Not That I really like this book. It gives me the choices of what might be better for me than some of the junk that I had been eating.
not a great parenting book So, I have read both the grocery as well as the restaurant version. I think he is pretty right on. I think butter is better than margarine but, I realize I am a minority in that. One thing that makes me laugh however is a little box on the bottom of page xiv. It is called the whine factor "how to trick your children into never whining for sugary snacks again." He suggests, "The next time your child whines because he wants something, pretend you can't understand what he's saying." As a mother of five children, I can promise this is not a good idea. First, it's not nice. How would you like to struggle to learn a foreign language and after learning to communicate had some jerk tell you they don't understand what you are saying when they can. It is confusing and frustrating. Second, it doesn't work. Even when I have not understood what my two year old was asking me for, it didn't stop his attempts to make me understand. If anything it got louder and more determined. Children have more patience in this aspect than adults do. I read somewhere that a child gives up after an average of thirty attempts.
I have a better idea, bring a suitable "treat" for him along in the cart. My children love to buy a water bottle from the vending machines and drink it while we shop. Let the child chomp on an apple on the way to the supermarket so he isn't hungry while he watches all the food pass by and finally, don't buy junk for him. If he never gets it, he won't think it is a possibility. My children love dried fruit, fig newtons, etc.
Anyway, I think he should stick to food and not parenting advice.
