Great gift for a fitness enthusiast I got this as a gift for my boyfriend who likes fitness and thinks that the Navy Seals are cool. He actually had a prior edition of this book, but was very pleased that this one included a discussion of nutrition. Great gift!
Useful if you don't already know much I found that a lot of the information in this book was stuff that I already knew, even though I don't have any real formal education in sports and fitness. The stuff on nutrition is basically what you probably already know from your high school biology class, although there are a few good tips that I hadn't heard before. As for the weightlifting and calisthenics, most of it I already knew, although there were one or two exercises I hadn't seen before. If you already work out and eat right on a regular basis you probably don't need this book, but if you're totally clueless when it comes to exercise and nutrition then this book is a good value for you.
Psssst! Interesting program to ensure getting seriously overtrained in a very short period of time. No wonder those military guys are so grumpy and quarrelsome. If you have internet access and google (shhhhh!) you can find this book for free online... For normal people who aren't genetic superstars or on steroids I would highly suggest checking out Stuart McRobert's "Beyond Brawn" instead.
Don't bother. As a personal trainer looking for ways to challenge my clients I thought this book would be helpful but I was wrong. It's a 'dumb-down' tutorial - I found more interesting things online.
Good overall reference! I got the book fast and in perfect condition. It's filled with tons of information on, yep, you guessed it, "fitness and nutrition!" It's a good and solid overall reference book, but not quite 'authoritative.' However, that shouldn't stop you from acquiring it for your library. For the price of about 10 bucks and the huge quantity of info at your fingertips it's unbeatable.
