Product Description: Cal McDonald, boozer, druggie, private dick who hangs with dead dudes - welcome to Rock Bottom. Your only friend in the human world is dead, your girlfriend just dumped you and moved to another city, and the district attorney has a chip on his shoulder the size of a Chevy Nova with your name on it. When that chip turns into a nasty case of police brutality, Cal ends up fighting for his life in the intensive care unit and wakes up days later... sober. And what's Cal been missing since he went under? Only the most horrifying convergence of sheer monster power ever to emigrate from the old world. Cal McDonald, meet Nosferatu.
Good, Funny Stuff. ^ This is the about the fifth or so Criminal Macabre trade, which is basically Steve Niles' version of John Constantine, Hellblazer.
The guy's a detective type who's into pillpopping (in other words, a dime a dozen in that genre), but here, he does it because he sees dead people and it keeps him sane. Cal's also in a series of short novels, and there is a complete collection of all the books out there for those interested in more adventures.
In this one, he basically has some fallout with a public official from the last few stories, which may put newcomers in the dark, but that's only a page or two of "Huh?" and it's not that hard to follow. Eventually, Cal and his ghoul buddy end up throwing down with ol' Nosferatu himself, who's probably 20 times cooler than any version of Dracula. Nos also messes up Cal's old lady pretty bad, but the best part is when Cal gets his revenge on Mister Red Eyes.
If you're a fan of Hellblazer, Horror, or Steve Niles, you may be down with this.
comic art fan of kyle hotz ^ The story is very interesting and it takes you through the typical storyline of a vampire drama, but the art is what did it for me. The black and whites of kyle hotz are excellent.
