Product Description: Warren Ellis' eight-issue opus of masked hero revolution, Black Summer, perfectly complimented by the stunning and explosive art of the genius Juan Jose Ryp, is nothing less than a sequential masterpiece! The world goes black in this epic story of super-powered heroes and villains. The story begins when the political situation in the United States becomes more than Horus can stand, and he moves to take matters into his own hands. Unfortunately, not all of his team-mates are quite so eager to throw the world into chaos, and an epic conflict ensues. With Horus and the rest of the surviving Guns facing off against the military and each other, no one is safe as the bodies start to fall.
Bionic Superhero Revolution! The title for this review is pretty much the plot of the book, but this story also acts as social commentary for the war in Iraq, superheroes, and government. The "Heroes" in this book are mentally unstable stemming from the enhancements they received to become bionic supermen. Warren Ellis provides a nice glimpse into the minds of what that kind of person would be like. It is a very entertaining read and will provoke thought about a wide assortment of topics. The only major problem with the book is that some of Juan Jose Ryp's fight sequences get very confusing to look at and I couldn't quite keep track of what was going on. Worth the price of admission, this tale of superhero revolution is a must read.
Great read, but...... Ok don't mean to bring down the one other user who reviewed it, but the book is not all that original. Its basically The Authority and Watchmen blended together and made a baby of some shorts, and takes things further in someways that the two books don't.
If your a warren ellis fan by all means get this book, i am a fan of his work, and really enjoyed it. Also if you are a DC/Wildstorm fan and go by the motto "absolute power corrupts" then you'll get a kick out of this book. At first it seems to derived from Authority/Watchmen, but then slowly works to its own beat. Some neat action scene's with ridiculous one punch human explosions make it rather fun. Some at some point it lacks details on characters past, which is why its hard to give it 5 stars, as well as that i felt that it carried out ideas from Authority and watchmen a little to much at times. But by all means this was enjoyable and would recommend it.
Mind Blowing !! love the writing ! incredible art ! not your average run of the mill trade.
if you want something original and thought provoking read this. and yes it has tons of action !
