A must for your Collection I have been a cake decorator for 40 yrs and I wish this book was out in my starting out lessons. I recommend it for all those who love the art of gum paste.
Great variety of flowers I love making gumpaste flowers and this book is among those which has the greatest variety of different flowers. Instructions seem easy to follow (at least if you are not a complete beginner), though I have to admit that I almost never make flowers according to exact instructions anymore, i.e. I adapt the procedure and print out several pics of real flowers and work from those.
However, books like this are ideal for people who are bored with conventional roses-stephanotis-jasmine-lilies-cala lilies-blossoms type of sugarcraft decorations, and would welcome ideas for something a bit different. The flowers are very beautiful, though personally I like Alan Dunn's work a bit better. Still, an excellent book.
Sugar Flowers Honestly, I was quite dissapointed with this book. I thought it would give me a more step by step instruction. I have found other books much more useful.
this is for advanced decorators This book is quite complete. Some of the chapters deal with fondant, gum paste [recipes included], seasonal gum paste flowers such as Alstroemeria, Anemone, Campanula,Bleeding Heart, Gardenia, Geranium, Parrot Tulip, Hibiscus, Iris, Water Lily, Bird of Paradise, Gloriosa Lily. as well as the usual roses, violets, daffodils. etc. This is not the entire bouquet! There's not just flowers in this book, There's unusual cakes as well as all the sugar art goodies to match, patterns included.
Novice Cake Decorators Can Do It Too! I like this book very much because it gives you step by step details and explanations. I have been able to practice making and using royal and fondant icing to decorate my cakes. I feel Mr. Woolley wrote this book as if he were teaching students in his studio. The pictures are excellent in their quality. This is a wonderful assest when using the book as your teacher. I look forward to taking a class with him.
