I Wish These Books Were Around When I Was a Kid! I have checked out three of Brian P. Cleary's books at the library including "To Root, to Toot, to Parachute--What is a Verb?" and I am extremely impressed by how much fun they are to read to my 6 year old daughter. Cleary has written a bunch of books and I can't wait to read them all. I'm so jealous that they weren't around when I was a kid.
My daughter has learned a lot all ready with just a couple of readings of these books written in easy to understand verse.
I plan to homeschool her for first grade and I think these books will be an excellent tool to teach her parts of speech, grammar, and even math.
I must mention that illustrator, Jenya Prosmitsky, is equally important for providing entertainment value of the books with her bright and silly illustrations which are certainly appealing to a child's eyes.
Verbs What a fun way to teach children about verbs ... the rhyming is so addictive!
fantastic series I teach first grade and my kids love the fun rhymes and silly illustrations in this book. It is like a mix of Dr. Seuss and grammar instruction. I highly recommend this book and the others--especially "Hairy, Scary and Ordinary--What is an Adjective?" and "A Mink, A Fink and a Skating Rink--What is a Noun?" If you have kids who are learning to write or teach writing to young kids, get these books!
To Root to Toot to Parachute: What Is a Verb (Words Are Cate My five year old daughter loves this book! Prosmitsky's colorful illustrations make it so much more fun learning the parts of speech. My daughter adores the illustrator's goofy pillow-like cats!
Time to learn your grammar! These books are so good at helping kids learn the parts of speech. They give so many clear examples of sentences, with the specific part of speech in a different color so everyone will notice it. I used these in a classroom during english class and they all loved it. A+ to this book!
