Product Description:
Boston 1691 the gallows await the Warlock (Julian Sands). What was an apparent triumph of Witch Hunter Giles Redferne (Richard E. Grant) is short lived as the Warlock escapes and is hurled 300 years into the future. Now say a prayer for the City of Angels for it is here in Los Angeles where he begins the task of reuniting three portions of the Devils Book that will reveal the secret name of God. If spoken all creation will be destroyed. Redferne who is also transported enlists the aid of Kassandra (Lori Singer) who has miraculously escaped the Warlocks wrath. But the carnage has begun as the Warlock successfully unites the first two sections. The final portion is buried in an old Boston cemetery... in Redfernes grave! It is on these hallowed grounds where evil magic will confront the strength of righteousness with the future of mankind at stake.Starring: Julian Sands Lori Singer Richard E. Amazon.com:
Clever and original, this horror film directed by Steve Miner (Forever Young) stars Julian Sands as a 17th century warlock who escapes the gallows and is transported--along with the witch hunter who brought him to trial (Richard E. Grant)--300 years into the future. Running loose in contemporary Los Angeles, Sands's supernatural monster sets about reuniting the scattered portions of a Devil's Book that will reveal the true name of God and thus destroy mankind. In a great twist, the last bit of the book is in a very interesting place: the grave of Grant's character, who has enlisted the aid of a woman (Lori Singer) in a hurried effort to stop imminent disaster. Genuinely involving, Warlock is aided immeasurably by sharp performances from the equally eccentric Grant (Withnail and I) and Sands (Naked Lunch). Miner invents his way through a kind of simultaneously new and old horror tale, and the results are taut, fun, and surprising. The DVD release features Spanish and French subtitles, cast and crew information, and 2.0 Dolby surround sound. --Tom Keogh

1 out of 5 starsNot scary - very dated, kinda humorous
I love horror movies, but this one is very dated and campy. Had to fast-forward through much of it.

4 out of 5 starsConsidered To Be Barefoot And Extremely Dangerous...
Way back in 1691 a warlock (Julian Sands from Arachniphobia) is captured, given a chance to repent, and sentenced to death. Luckily for the warlock, satan's forces are used to save him. He disappears before our eyes, along with the witch-hunter who caught him! Three hundred years later, the warlock shows up in modern day LA in order to find the scattered pages of a powerful satanic book. If re-assembled, the book will show the true name of God, ushering in the "uncreation", thereby wiping out all life on earth. Low and behold, the witch-hunter shows up as well. With the help of Kassandra (Lori Singer from "VR5"), Grant's character sets out to locate and terminate the warlock before he fulfills his mission. WARLOCK is a cool movie with enough suspense and hocus-pocus to keep things interesting. There's even a nod to gorehündts in the form of a tongue-ripping and an eyeball gouging! Not a lot of blood, but we get the idea! As an added treat, Mary Woronov (Death Race 2000, Silent Night, Bloody Night) does a wonderful cameo as a fake medium who meets her match when the warlock pays her a visit! Well worth owning...

3 out of 5 starsHe comes from the past to destroy the future.
Warlock is a bizarre 80's horror flick that had some fantasy and witch craft elements to it and it features two great British actors Julian Sands and Richard E. Grant who were both terrific in their roles the only problem I had with this film was the special fx which looked abit dodgy especially when the Warlock starts flying into the air, the special fx looked kind of outdated. The story's about a witch hunter from 1691 named Redferne (Richard E. Grant) who has been chasing an evil warlock thats been plaguing his puritan town and has killed his wife up to the very moment of his beheading by the local people but just as he thinks hes won the warlock escapes and travels to 1988.

He hopes to put together the devil's bible by joining 3 sets of paperwork called the Grand Grimoir so he could one day rule the world, offcourse Redferne is not pleased by this and decides to travel into the future 1988 and save mankind. There were a few humorous and campy scenes where Redferne is kind of a fish out of water and is also frightened by electronic gadgets and stuff like that. There was very little gore in this film but overall I wouldn't say it was bad, it was definitely an enjoyable horror/fantasy film which also happens to be a cult film.

Lori Singer also stars in the film as Kassandra who comes across both characters and sees how evil The Warlock is when he bites off her roommates tongue and gouges his eyes out (probably the only gory part of the film) and I thought her acting was very good and convincing as the heroine who helps out Redferne she also acts as his guide as they go through a road trip in search of The Warlock, you might also enjoy the jokes about witchcraft and Richard's character which I find very amusing and made this film seem much more enjoyable than it already is, if it weren't for him then this film probably wouldn't have worked.

This film has a good mix of action, decent gore and some comedy but like I said the special fx could have been much better cause they look way too cheesy and bad, alot of people said that the sequel was better since they improved the special fx so I might check it out. The film was also directed by Steve Miner who is well known for these type of b-movies and low budget horror films hes also responsible for making Friday the 13th parts 2 and 3 and House so if you've seen those films then you probably should know what to expect.

5 out of 5 starsA Goth Must Have
If you are into Vampires and all things Goth or horror films from the 80's then this is it. This 80's classic is campy, funny, and all in all a MUST WATCH!

Buy it today and then get the sequel. Julian Sands does an Excellent job as most great actors do!

2 out of 5 starsSchlocky 1990s B Horror
This in many ways is typical of 1990s B horror. It was made on a small budget but got enough of a cult following on video rental to spawn at least two sequels, the second had so much of a cult following it even had a Sega Genesis game made for it- yes, Sega Genesis. B horror rentals in the 2000s are much the same, but even cheaper to make and even hokier artwork on the slipcase, but enough bewitching appeal to influence at least a rental. Julian Sands gives a dull performance it what has become the best that he can do, play the Warlock title character in this B horror series. In the 1600s a prophecy is given, and Sands as the Warlock tracks down someone in the 1990s to fulfill the prophecy. Unluck Freddy or Jason films, or even Night of the Demons, this was completely devoid of gore. At the time of its release it was the cheapest movies ever made to recieve a legitimate release, albeit as a direct to video cult hit, possibly starting the trend of never was straight to video B flicks. It's not horrible, just nothing to keep it from seeming like a typically Christian drama that just isn't scary. I still can dig it, though.
