50 Baby Booties to KNit This book has lots of errors and, if you are not an experienced knitter with time to rework them, you should not buy this book. I have tried locating an errata sheet for the book but have had no luck. Consequently, I am having to chart and rewrite the patterns. I think that the proofreading was amiss, if done at all. Susan
Not my favorite I got this book because i loved the shoes on the cover. Although the book has some really cute shoes and patterns, I found the directions a little hard to follow. I think this book is for more experienced knitters as it expects you to know how to do several rows without instruction as an example, increase in rows 5, 7, 9. I know how to do that, but others were a bit more tricky. some of the patterns are exactly the same except she has some difference in the yarn type or the embelishment. So i haven't made any of the patterns yet. :( I wouldn't recommend this book if you haven't been knitting for a while. Although i do like her book about knit toys.
Ehhh.. It's not the best book, but it's not the worst either. I love the large, beautiful color photographs and the ease of the two patterns I've tried thus far. However, I have a real problem with an author/publisher putting out a book with "50" baby bootie patterns, and it turns out to be far less than that. Changing the color of the yarn and adding a pretty ribbon does not make a different pattern. I do really admire Zoe Mellor as a designer, this book was just not what I expected.
Cute but not perfect I disagree with the reviewers who say that this book consists of a lot of "variations on a theme." I found almost all of the booties to be surprisingly unique. Even where two shoes look similar, the tecniques are often pretty different.
The patterns are easily explained, and the booties are adorable. There's a wide range, from practical to traditional to silly. There are a few sock patterns thrown in, too. I haven't used any of her yarn recommendations, instead using yarn that matches sweaters or hats that I've knit for my baby.
I would be giving this book 5 stars if each pattern had instructions for the 3 size ranges that the book claims to cover (0-3mo, 3-6mo, 6-9 mo). Instead, almost all of the patterns only come in one size, usually 3-6mo. I'm not a good enough knitter that I can visualize where I need to add stitches to change the pattern size myself. It's very annoying to find the perfect pair that I want to knit, and have it be too small, and this problem will only be worse when my baby outgrows the 3-6mo size.
Fun, quick to knit adorable baby booties Fun and interesting booties to knit and a great way to put to use the bits of yarn that always seem to be left over.
