Product Description: Bootleggers, gambling, ringleaders, arsonists, narcotics dealers and gang murders--a variety of characters flourished in the era known as Prohibition, and Tampa, Florida was where they battled for supremacy of the criminal underworld.
booooooring! How can a mafia book be so boring? This reads like the author took facts from a police blotter "ver batem" and made a book about it. Doesn't go into depth into any of the characters. Doesn't tell me anything new about Trafficante or any other Florida thugs. I WANT MY MONEY BACK!!!
Garbage A nice little smear campaign aginst some of Tampa's most prominent residents. Santo Trafficante, Jr. taught me how to put in the back of the Godfathers lounge when I was 9 years old and he showed me how to make a shirley temple, Joseph DiGerlando gave me my first job when I was in highschool painting apartments, Joe was always a nice guy and would always acknowldge your birthdays and holidays, he is a friend of the famiily. The alligations agint Joe where false and did not hold up under the states weak evidance.
Not bad.........great info!!!! Once you get past all the typos, there is a pretty good book hiding out. I may be biased because I live in Tampa, Yboy City to be exact. This town does not like to discuss the past. It's like pulling teeth just to get people to mention the old days. This has always fascinated me, being a mob follower, that I could read up on just about every other mob family, but could not find much about my own city's mob history. With that said, I understand the resistance this author must have encountered when researching this book. At times the book jumps all over the place, and it doesn't let you get inside of some of the players involved. It kind of gives you a names, places, and brief stats. If you are from Tampa you will find this book interesting. A lot of last names that are mentioned are still prominent here today. This book helped me to realize that the mafia's fingerprints are all over this city. But if you're not from here, then you may not be so impressed. Next time the author needs to execute better.
Interesting & Well Written. The book is interesting and well written. It's a page flipper that captures your attention and holds it. I give it 5 stars because it's enjoyable to read.
Cigar City Mafia: A Complete History of the Tampa Underworld Having lived through several decades of Mafia rule in the Tampa area, I found the book informative and interesting. It filled in several mysteries of changes that occurred during my time in the area. It was succinct and objective, without being boring and documentary. If you are interested in how they spread and how the Mafia controlled their "territory", this book will help explain what you need to know. It is a history that can not be swept under the rug.
