When former Marvel cartoonist and sizzling hot author Ben Caldwell created Fantasy! Cartooning—an eye-popping, covers-it-all manual on drawing and understanding fantasy art—he caused a sensation. It quickly sold a whopping 125,000 copies, and is still going strong. With this kit, budding artists eager to try their hand will find even more inspiration to go along with the book’s insider tips on producing awe-inspiring monsters, heroes, landscapes, and scenes. It has everything needed to spark the creative process: a copy of Fantasy! Cartooning, with 16 pages of special perforated tracing paper; one black fine-tip marker; one mechanical lead sketching pencil; one non-reproducible pencil (essential when scanning art for computerized animation); one micro-tip marker; and eight different colored drawing pencils to bring characters to life. What a fabulous gift for any would-be cartoonist or fantasy fan!
Worth the money - Inspiring ^ This book is well worth the price. Like a good woman, it's easy to read, informative, and great to look at.=] A must add to your reference library - The art is both inspired and inspiring. This is an excellent book on what makes a character drawing come to life.
However, this book IS NOT a step-by-step instruction book on how to draw each character between the covers. It does have the gesture drawings for each image etc. but, it's more about analyzing the parts of each drawing that bring the character to life. A look at the essential but, often subtle details that really add excitement to an illustration. I don't think this is a problem as most people interested in this genre/art style already have the basic skills/process figured out. So, if you're a very new beginner buy this book and one more with the step-by-step approach and you'll be on your way to cartooning greatness. Thanks Ben, you made a great product. Now, I'm going to buy your other book on "Action Cartooning". Great stuff.
