Product Description: When Danny Gregory's life was turned upside down by tragedy, he learned to cope by teaching himself to draw. The result was a complete transformation of his life, his priorities, his career, and the way he saw the world. In handwritten chapters full of his lush watercolor illustrations, Danny now offers readers a program for reconnecting to their own creative energies, using drawing as an example. He gently instructs us in the art of allowing ourselves to fail, giving up the expectation of perfection and opening our eyes to the beauty around us. The result is the permission to express ourselves fully and take part in the creative process without fear. Artist or not, readers of all stripes will find inspiration in this unique and beautiful book.
Good book! ^ I really liked this book. Some times my mind is in blank, I'm blocked and don't know what to draw or paint. It includes a list of things you can draw, which is endless, and with all those graphics full of color, it invites and inspires me to continue drawing and painting in my journal. I makes me feel like a kid without fear of judgement. I'm my worse judge. But after reading this book, if you make a mistake, who cares?
Permission granted ^ Danny's assertion and layout in this book is great for the lost soul whom knows that the creative element in their life is missing. He captures you with an earnest look at how one's thinking and environment causes self doubt and "dis" ability in area of being a creative and artistic person. I'm enjoying the read and the activities and have been driven to join the online groups, discussions, and online followers of Danny's. Creative license is permission granted with nudges from a wonderful coach!
Like a creative therapist on your shoulder ^ I just want to say that this book has been so inspiring for me to read. I don't feel like I can draw worth beans but this author and this book has helped me overcome so many of my fears and to get rid of my excuses for not expressing myself creatively like I deeply yearn to do. There are great quotes and lots and lots of drawings throughout the book. It's chock-full of ideas. The message that keeps coming to me is "Just draw and stop worrying so much about how it will look!" He compares drawing to learning to ride a bicycle. When you first got on a bike, you didn't know how to ride. With practice you were able to learn how to do it. It's the same with drawing. So what if your first drawings look like crud? You learn from your mistakes and you keep trying. Pretty soon drawing will come just as naturally to you as bicycle riding does! I highly recommend this book!
Inspiring ^ Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R1RZT52N7YF2O0 This book is full of pointers on drawing, on creating something on paper with ink. There are a lot of ideas on what to draw ,when (now) to draw but not how to draw. Every page feels like a call to put pen to paper.
The text is typeset in a handwriting font, which might make it hard to read for long periods of time. The good thing is this book can be picked up and read in portions from any page.
It's a very inspirational and motivating book to read, especially when in a artist block. As I finish the book, I begin to see objects in life differently. Everyone can have that creative license, as suggested by the book title.
