Product Description: In this follow-up to the hit ALL STAR SUPERMAN VOL. 1, the Man of Steel goes toe-to-toe with Bizarro, his oddball twin, and the new character Zibarro, also from the Bizarro planet. And Superman faces the final revenge of Lex Luthor -- his own death!
Wonderful ^ All Star Superman (volumes 1 & 2) combine for one of the best Superman stories ever told. Morrison takes 70+ years worth of Superman concepts and condenses them down to a 12 issue story. Everything that makes Superman great is here: heroism, self-sacrifice, a sense of awe and a sense of humor. Of course this being written by Morrison means that there are plenty of weird and unexpected elements. The bizarro story is a perfect example.
If you are not familiar with Morrison's writing, but you are a Superman fan, certainly give this quirky but wonderful story a try.
Great, but it didn't wow me. ^ I read the first volume two years ago and I read the eleventh issue about half a year ago. I wasn't in love with the book, but it has so much praise that I had to give it a read. I like the comic, but I don't love it. I think it has a lot of cool ideas, great artwork and that it does a great job of making every issue have its own story while still developing an overarching arc to the whole series. However, I just didn't find myself caring that much for what would happen. Superman is dying, but I had a hard time thinking he would die.
I can see why a lot of people love this book, but it just didn't astound me.
A good ending ^ While not as entertaining as the first volume, this is still a very good take on the epicness of Superman and a good finish from the amazing first volume. It does a great job in trying to capture just how big and powerful Superman really is, while somehow showing he does have weakness and is vulnerable, especially portrayed as the bumbling Clark Kent. The character that is really potrayed well yet again in this volume is Luthor, who is as genius and insane as ever. Both volumes are a must read for Superman fans
All Star Superman A Classic in Present Times ^ Being a long time follower on the Man of Steel (1961-Now)I have always found it interesting how the character has developed and evolved over time. The volumes, both 1 & 2 has confirmed what I always knew, that Superman is in good hands and will continue to be for a long time. This "death" of Superman was not sad but rather uplifting to know that he is at the heart of the Sun, maintaining its power source, just exemplifies the true nature of the character: That he will always sacrifice himself to protect his adopted home and its inhabitants from harm and to promote their survival. He has lost one home, but he will NOT lose another. One point I must mention: I found it quite interesting that WE are living in the square universe and WE were the experiment to show Kal-El what life and a world without him would be like. Excellent touch!!!
Didn't liked this at all ^ Again, like in my review for volume 1, I don't understand the fuzz on this series. This whole All Star Superman arc, from begining to end, was a complete waste of time for me. I didn't foud it funny, nor exiting nor interesting nor anything. This is a complete overated work form Grant Morrison.
Maybe I'm not just smart enough to undertand it. I liked the last showdown with Lex Luthor. That was ok, but beyond that there is nothing else, at least for me.
