Very poor This got published?? It seems its easier to get something published than it is to get into Arizona State University (92% acceptance rate!!!)
Gorgeous Artwork, Nice Action, but ultimately AntiClimactic I am essentially a lifelong Hawkman fan, so I purchased this collection despite already having the separate issues as part of trying to keep Hawkman being published. That said, this story was somewhat of a letdown.
The artwork was gorgeous throughout, and the writing did a good job of building up the sense of impending danger. However, the character of Gold Eagle is introduced, and then...

... he takes over for Hawkman, and then Hawkman comes back within a matter or 30 pages or so. This was far too quick, and we never got a chance to really appreciate Golden Eagle in that role, before he seemed to have a mental breakdown, and then every so quickly, the real Hawkman was back. This was much too quick of a denoument for a story that took 10 or so issues to build.

My other major disappointment was with the explanation of the return of Golden Eagle. I will not spoil it for readers here, but it just didn't make any sense to me, and conflicted with actual event in The New Titans, Hawkworld, and the previous run of Hawkman. This change was definitely shoe-horned in there. I assumed that it was all due to Infinite Crisis but, no, apparently it was just forced in.
Overall, still, a fun ride/read, gorgeous artwork, but still definitely a let down in some ways.
On the other hand, Hawkman has never looked better than when illustrated by Joe Bennett.
A very solid and entertainning story with great art Rise of Golden Eagle is a rich ans strong story with a lot of action, good storytelling and developpement characters.
Joe Bennett, Dale Eaglesham, Steve Sadowski make this one an even more enjoyable book to read.
Try it, it's fun, action-packed and interesting.
This TPB contains issues #37-45, right in the Justin Gray / Jimmy Palmiotti run. But don't panic, anything you need to know is inside.
