Really WANTED to love it, but still haven't finished it. I love the concept, the execution and most of all: the hardcover presentation!
But some people are D.C. people. And some are Marvel People. I seem to be a Marvel person.
For me, it was a really slow read and to be honest, I am only half way thru and haven't finished it after buying it a year ago. It's like there is too much happening, and that the scenes that are condensed need to be expanded and some of the longer scenes need compressing.
Flicking forward the pages look great, but I just dont know why it's so reveared.
But for those who already know the story and likeit....this is a great hardcover!
Awesome story, visuals and dialogue!!!!!!!!!!! This is the reason why absolute editions are an absolute (sorry) necessity. This product was already a must buy for comic fans but with the release of the gorgeous absolute addition it is a must buy for anyone who is a fan of great art and storytelling. Writer/artist Darwyn Cooke out did himself with this over the top collection.
Great Absolute This is my favorite of the Absoltues to date. I loved all the extras. It is apparent that DC really took there time putting this one together.
Great Book, but watch out for Damaged Product. The New Frontier is amazing. But Amazon sent me a damaged copy and tried to tell me it was damaged in shipping. The return address was from the AMAZON RETURN CENTER. Obviously Amazon tried to sell me a damaged book that had already been returned, and pass it off as new. FRAUD! If this were only a one time incident, I could deal with it, but they did the exact same thing to my girlfriend last summer. She ordered Jinx by Brian Michael Bendis and when it came it looked like a 3rd grader had tried to glue it together. It literally fell apart the moment she opened it. They told her the same thing they told me, even though the return address was again from the AMAZON RETURN CENTER. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. I can no longer support a company that's policy is to perpetrate FRAUD against the American people.
Classic Cook manages to bring together all the DC mythologies into a seamless and stylish whole, while avoiding any crude reworking of the established legends. Ok it's heavily influenced by 'The Right Stuff' but it's hard to fault it for that. It's an absolutely gorgeous book too, slipcase an all.
